Bongdam Japanese restaurant: mini-brazier steak & soup, Sindong Lab

Sindong Lab Hwaseong Bongdam Branch is a Japanese restaurant in Bongdam-eup, Hwaseong, Gyeonggi, next to the University of Suwon and near the Yungneung and Geolleung royal tombs, serving soba, gyukatsu (Japanese beef cutlet), rice bowls and sukiyaki. After booking an early lunch, the writer got a welcome drink and soup, then ate brazier-grilled steak with ricotta cheese salad and a sukiyaki set, finishing with dessert ice cream. For a Japanese lunch in Bongdam, Sindong Lab delivers atmosphere, flavor and good value together.

Suwon City Hall hangover soup with 24-hour bone broth: Jeju Eunhuine

Jeju Eunhuine Haejangguk Suwon Ingye Branch is a Jeju-style hangover soup restaurant in Ingye-dong, near City Hall Station in Suwon. The morning after heavy drinking, a couple ordered one haejangguk (hangover soup), one offal soup and a small dombe pork (boiled pork slices). They especially liked the review event, which offers a choice of blood soup, tripe salad or a 500ml bottled drink, and the free extra rice with one order per person. The deep broth at Jeju Eunhuine Haejangguk, simmered for 24 hours from beef bones, cured the hangover completely.

After-work pork BBQ in Bongdam: salted hairtail dip & stew, Hanmaeum

Hanmaeum Jeonguk Sikdang Bongdam is a butcher-style Korean BBQ restaurant in Bongdam District 2, Bongdam-eup, Hwaseong, Gyeonggi. After work, the writer booked a dinner table and ordered the 500g half pig set of pork belly, five-layer belly, pork neck, gabrisal (pork cap) and pork jowl. Unlimited doenjang (soybean paste) stew refills, galchi-sokjeot (salted hairtail innards dip) and a grill that drains fat well stood out. Thanks to its meat quality and friendly staff, Hanmaeum Jeonguk Sikdang Bongdam is a good-value Bongdam District 2 BBQ spot that the writer would 100% revisit.

Gopchang restaurant in Incheon with 3 free dishes: Yeonsu Gopchang

Yeonsu Gopchang (연수곱창) is a gopchang and makchang (grilled beef intestine) restaurant on Saemmal-ro 21beon-gil in Yeonsu-dong, Incheon. After a day out in Songdo, a couple ordered the Yeonsu Modum Hansang mixed set (1 serving of vegetable gopchang and 1 serving of salt-grilled makchang) plus sesame oil fried rice, and Yeonsu Gopchang brought out icy muk-sabal (acorn jelly in chilled broth), sundae and liver, and a gopchang hot pot on the house. The gopchang and makchang were both nutty and chewy with no gamey smell, and the writer is 100% planning to return.

Suwon rooftop café near Omokcheon Station for a date: Orange Bagel

Orange Bagel (오렌지베이글) is a large three-floor bakery café on Omokcheon-ro in Gwonseon-gu, Suwon, near Omokcheon Station. On a first visit as a date, the writer ordered four bagels (scallion cream cheese, chocolate, mocha bun, and crab and shrimp) plus an iced Americano, and the coffee served in an insulated cup and the 3rd-floor rooftop view stood out most. With a large parking lot and self-serve bags for packing leftover bagels, Orange Bagel is a satisfying stop on a Suwon date course.

Suwon shabu-shabu date with fish cake balls and mandu: Sodamchon

Sodamchon Suwon Jeongja Branch (소담촌 수원정자점) is a shabu-shabu and Vietnamese spring roll restaurant on the 4th floor of the Gyeongseong Building on Jeongjacheon-ro in Jangan-gu, Suwon. On a first visit as a date, the couple enjoyed the self-bar's fresh vegetables, fish cake balls, meat and kimchi mandu (dumplings), yeolmu guksu (young radish kimchi noodles), egg porridge, bread and ice cream, then the Sodamchon café after the meal. With fresh ingredients and everything from the main meal to dessert in one place, Sodamchon Suwon Jeongja Branch is a solid pick for a shabu-shabu date in Suwon.

For a good-value handmade burger date in Gwanggyo, Base Burger is a satisfying choice.
