Hangover kimchi jjigae at Choburi in Gojan-dong, Ansan
For my hangover meal the day after drinking too much, I picked the spicy kimchi jjigae (kimchi stew) at Choburi Kimchi Jjigae in Gojan-dong, Ansan. I needed something to cure the hangover, but hangover soups and gukbap (rice soup) didn't appeal, so I wondered what to eat... and then decided on a spicy kimchi stew and went to Choburi, which has a big reputation as a kimchi jjigae place in Gojan-dong, Ansan!
Choburi is famous in Gojan-dong, Ansan, for kimchi jjigae and nothing else. At lunch it's packed with office workers! Let's get started, haha.

Is there a wait at Choburi Kimchi Jjigae at lunchtime?
Choburi Kimchi Jjigae Gojan Main Branch was so busy at lunch that there was a wait. The exterior looked lovely, with a really pretty interior too. Even from far away I could see the windows full of customers! We went at lunchtime, sure, but there was still a wait.

Just from this sign you can tell how confident they are in their kimchi jjigae. It's a single main dish, with a variety of side menu items.

There are quite a lot of tables, and they were still all full! We had reserved, though, so we could eat right away.

What events does Choburi Kimchi Jjigae run?
Choburi was running events: a buchu memil-jeon (chive and buckwheat pancake) for the first 3 groups at opening, and a free fresh skinless pork topping (hanyeon mibak saengogi) for lunch parties of 3 or more. Being a lunch spot for office workers, it seemed to have lots of events aimed at lunchtime.

There was also this touching event, T_T Isn't the owner an angel?!

We had reserved, so the side dishes were already set out at our table. There wasn't a big variety, but they were plenty for eating with rice.

Choburi also had this no-blank prize event, where everyone wins something. The events were so varied that just looking at them was fun. I wonder if the owner makes any profit giving so much away, haha. Everyone, please join the events and get your freebies.

Choburi Kimchi Jjigae menu and set options
The Choburi set comes with perilla oil fried eggs, unlimited ramyeon noodles and a drink. We ordered the set for two with an extra meat topping! It's so generous. You can order à la carte, but I recommend the set.
Side dishes include buckwheat pancake and kimchi jeonbyeong (kimchi rolls). There are extra toppings and meal kit takeout too, so if you loved the meal, I recommend taking some home.

After ordering, I looked to the side and saw a explanation about pork fat. I had no idea pork fat had these benefits, haha.

What's on the Choburi self-service bar?
The self-service bar had unlimited rice, pickled chili peppers and stir-fried fish cake, plus refill broth so you can add more when you put in the ramyeon noodles. I looked around while waiting for the food.

Choburi kimchi jjigae for two: is it a good hangover cure?
The kimchi jjigae for two had a spicy, clean broth, perfect for a hangover. When our order arrived, the portion for two was really generous! And that's before our extra topping went in, yikes.
The kimchi jjigae was boiling so well that I filmed a quick video, haha. Once it finished boiling and I tried it, the broth was spicy and clean and so delicious!

Reservation bonus mushrooms and the ₩5,000 pork topping
The extra toppings arrived too. On top are silver ear mushrooms, which they gave us as a reservation service, haha. Underneath is the extra pork topping for ₩5,000, and there's quite a lot of it.
Three perilla oil fried eggs with the set
The set's three perilla oil fried eggs came out. The nutty perilla oil aroma was incredible. They'd also sprinkled parsley on top, which looked appetizing.

The yolks were cooked just right and so moist! That nutty perilla oil aroma, wow... so delicious.

At Choburi the rice comes as pot rice (solbap)! Such a nice service~~
Yum, the meat and kimchi from the stew! So delicious! The meat had no gamey or porky smell at all, and the nutty, chewy taste was so good. The stew was full of generous helpings of this great meat.

Eating rice, perilla oil egg, meat and kimchi in one bite was so, so good. I think every time I eat kimchi jjigae from now on, I'll think of perilla oil fried eggs and Choburi.

Finishing with ramyeon noodles, ramyeon-bokki style
With the set's unlimited ramyeon noodles, I used only a little broth and ate them like ramyeon-bokki (ramyeon cooked down like spicy rice cakes). I didn't add much broth, just enough, so it felt a bit like ramyeon-bokki? Haha, people who know that flavor can't resist it~~

Dessert at Choburi: misugaru slush and ice cream
For dessert service, Choburi had a sweet misugaru (roasted grain powder) slush and ice cream. The dessert service is amazing too!! This perfect restaurant even nails the finish...
Ice cream and misugaru slush to freshen the mouth! So good. I especially liked the misugaru slush. It wasn't too sweet and was full of nutty flavor.

On my way out to pay, I saw the meal kit from the menu earlier. It's packaged nicely. I want to buy one next time!
