Cheonan Korean restaurant, garage elevator to the door: Hyangtaek
In short
Hyangtaek Cheonan Buldang Branch is a Korean restaurant on the first floor of the Golden Plaza building in Buldang-dong, Seobuk-gu, Cheonan, Chungnam. As the final course of a weekend date that began with grilled beef and sashimi, the writer ordered the signature mackerel gondre rice (samchi gondre bap) and the eggplant doenjang rice bowl, and came up straight from the building's parking lot by elevator. Why Hyangtaek Cheonan Buldang Branch was the last stop on our date
There are so many delicious foods in the world. Western, Chinese, Japanese, Indian, Vietnamese — too many to list, all of them delighting our taste buds. Trying new cuisines every time is a great experience, and honestly, dishes served at any restaurant good enough to sell to customers like us are almost always tasty. But after eating around like that, there comes a moment when we Koreans instinctively crave something specific. A craving for hearty doenjang stew hits. A sudden urge for plain white rice with kimchi, eaten simply and cleanly. There's a moment when Korean food calls to you instinctively, no words needed.
Korean food pulls at you instinctively, but I also find myself reaching for it consciously when I want a light, clean meal, or something that feels wholesome and filling like health food. Korean food sits easy on the stomach, and since it uses a lot of relatively healthy ingredients, eating it just feels good for you. So last weekend, after grilled beef with my girlfriend and then fresh sashimi and jjim (steamed seafood) at a raw fish restaurant, I wanted something easy on the stomach and healthy-feeling for the last course — so we went to check out a Korean restaurant in Buldang-dong, Cheonan.
A go-to spot in Buldang-dong, good for a family meal too: Hyangtaek Cheonan Buldang Branch. Come with us into a refined world of Korean food ~ :)

What kind of Korean restaurant is Hyangtaek Cheonan Buldang Branch?
Hyangtaek Cheonan Buldang Branch is a place that pours care into healthy Korean food and delivers its value properly. Hyangtaek pursues a clean, healthy Korean food culture using fresh ingredients grown on Korean soil. Starting in 2022 in a tiny 7-pyeong space in Daegyo Gyodong Market, it has grown nationwide by serving flavors that stay memorable over time — a restaurant company that's genuinely serious about Korean food. At lunch it's a quick, efficient spot for solo diners; in the evening it works just as well for a relaxed, filling meal with family, a partner, or friends. As the branch name suggests, the store is located in Buldang-dong, Seobuk-gu, Cheonan, Chungnam, near Cheonan City Hall, Cheonan Citizens' Sports Park, SG Samsung Joeun Hospital, Medigreen Korean Medicine Hospital, and the Cheonan Buldang Park Prugio apartments — so plenty of foot traffic passes by.

Where to park: the Golden Plaza garage and elevator
Hyangtaek Cheonan Buldang Branch is in the Golden Plaza building, across from the Radnice officetel. You just drive into the building's parking lot through the clearly marked parking entrance. As you can see, it's spacious and pleasant, and there's even an elevator, so you can park comfortably and head straight up. There are quite a few large buildings near Hyangtaek, so it's easy to find.

Inside Hyangtaek: atmosphere and seating
Even from the outside, Hyangtaek Cheonan Buldang Branch already gives off the atmosphere of a solid Korean restaurant. The soft lighting and interior you can see from outside put you at ease before you even step in.
The interior is very clean while still feeling cozy. It's built around wood interiors, with tableware, small props, and the rest of the space all giving a Korean feel — it's really pleasant. The kitchen, furthest inside, is an open kitchen you can see right through, and there's an even mix of solo seats, group seats, and couple seats, so it's well set up no matter how you're visiting.

Origin labeling, a promo poster for the new menu, and a Naver receipt review event notice are neatly posted on the wall. Each table also has instructions on how to enjoy Hyangtaek's dishes best, so check those and enjoy your meal.

How does the mackerel gondre rice taste?
We ordered Hyangtaek's two most representative dishes. First, a quick review of the mackerel gondre rice (삼치곤드레밥): the gondre (dried aster greens) is gently boiled to keep its own aroma and texture, then topped with softly braised shiitake mushrooms, fragrant chives, and nutty sesame seeds. Finally, and most importantly, a thick, nicely grilled piece of mackerel goes on top to finish the dish. The well-grilled mackerel and the distinctive scent of gondre come together in harmony, giving you a truly healthy-feeling bowl of Korean food. ><

How does the eggplant doenjang rice bowl taste?
And the second signature dish, the eggplant doenjang rice bowl (가지된장덮밥), is eggplant cooked soft to bring out its gentle sweetness, topped with a hearty, deep, rich gangdoenjang (thick soybean paste stew) and chives, served over warm rice. The moist texture of the eggplant and the deep savory flavor of the doenjang blend together to give off real Korean flavor. It's mild but never bland — genuinely delicious — and we quickly polished off both bowls. It was really good.
