Why we picked 99Jangeo88 in Homaesil, Suwon, for a stamina meal
My husband and I went to 99Jangeo88 Suwon Homaesil Branch (99장어88 수원호매실본점) in Homaesil-dong, Suwon, for a restorative dinner on a Friday evening. Raising our 5-month-old every single day has been really tiring, and we figured we couldn't go on like this.

We chose 99Jangeo88. We both already liked it. The lunch special runs on weekdays and weekends alike, and the prices are quite reasonable. We've had the rice bowls, the soup and the eel porridge, and the flavors suit us perfectly. So this time we decided to go for a full grilled eel platter, haha.
It's in Homaesil-dong, Suwon. We went by car, so it was easier to find.
Parking and opening hours at 99Jangeo88 Suwon Homaesil Branch
If you park in the building's basement, 99Jangeo88 covers 90 minutes. It was a Friday evening, but luckily we found a spot quickly.

The only regular closing day is Tuesday. On all other days it's open from 10:00 a.m. to 10:30 p.m.
99Jangeo88 menu and the price of the salt-grilled eel platter

At 99Jangeo88 we ordered the salt-grilled eel platter (₩72,000) and added doenjang jjigae and rice. True to a top eel spot in Suwon Homaesil, the menu is really varied: there's a family set, a half-and-half grill, seasoned grilled eel and a half salt-grilled platter, so you can choose by how much you want to eat.
I still remember how good the rice bowl we had before was. The kimchi noodle soup and the eel soup noodles are real treats too, haha.
There's also a good range of drinks if you come with friends: soju and beer, plus Jipyeong makgeolli (rice wine) and Hwayo (premium soju). Since I have the baby, I ordered one can of zero cola and shared it with my partner.
I've also bought the eel extract drink at 99Jangeo88 a few times before, and it isn't fishy at all, just right for a health boost. I agonized over whether to take some home again that day.
Corn tea and a look at the self-serve corner
Next to the entrance there's a self-serve corner where you can grab more side dishes, extra plates, vegetables and so on. Warm corn tea is ready too, which was perfect for the colder weather.
99Jangeo88 salt-grilled eel platter: side dishes and how to grill

Once you order, 99Jangeo88 sets out the basic side dishes first. There was a seasoned salad of chives and other vegetables, and it was nicely savory.

Beside it were pickled perilla leaves, pickled onion, ginger and white kimchi. Ssamjang (dipping paste) and a special sauce came for dipping too. The special sauce is even better mixed with wasabi.

The eel at 99Jangeo88 arrives almost fully pre-grilled, so you just flip it once more after 3–4 minutes and keep grilling slowly as you eat. The flame seems powerful, so it cooks fast. A staff member saw us and explained how to eat it for the best taste, which was nice.

How the salt-grilled platter tasted, and how big it was
The 99Jangeo88 salt-grilled platter was generous for two adults, and it's crispy outside and moist inside: crunchy, yet tender and clean-tasting within. After a whole day of caring for the baby, a restorative eel dinner like this was just perfect. Eel is said to boost energy, help the eyes and skin, and strengthen blood vessels and immunity, so I thought nothing could beat it.

I also liked that the rice wasn't plain white rice. I think they mixed in turmeric powder, haha.

The doenjang jjigae my husband praised
The other dish my husband praised was the doenjang jjigae at 99Jangeo88. It's spicy and packed with tofu, zucchini and more. Maybe because we ate it on a cold day, it tasted even better.

I was sure a whole platter would be a lot, but at some point I noticed we'd eaten more than half, lol. I get full after just a little, so I really made my partner's restorative meal count this time. In the end we were both so stuffed, it was rough.
Above the counter you can feel the history of 99Jangeo88: it seems to have started in Bangi-dong in 1996 and made its way to Homaesil. Next time we visit, I'm planning to try the rice bowl again.
Inside 99Jangeo88 Suwon Homaesil Branch: interior and seating

The inside of 99Jangeo88 Suwon Homaesil Branch isn't huge, but it seats parties from 2 to 4 or more, and I saw group tables too. I thought it would be fine for gatherings or company dinners. For the restroom, you use the one in the shopping building. I think we made a good choice going to 99Jangeo88 for a restorative meal.
