I wanted to recommend a place with a great atmosphere for a Yeonnam-dong date — Hey Joji, where I had really delicious pasta and risotto. It's tucked inside a pretty alley full of Yeonnam-dong charm, so even the walk there set the mood.

The exterior gave off such a warm, cozy vibe that I liked it right away — turns out the place runs on an American comfort food concept. The outside is decorated to really feel like an American home, giving it a different charm from your typical Western restaurant.

Inside Hey Joji: interior and atmosphere

Stepping inside, the table spacing felt just right and the whole space was cozy yet clean. There was no noisy or chaotic vibe, so you can eat comfortably — it'd be perfect for a Yeonnam-dong dinner date too.

It was 3pm, past the lunch peak, but the place was still full of customers. I imagine it gets even more atmospheric in the evening when the sun sets and the soft lighting comes on — a great spot for an anniversary or special occasion with a glass of wine. Also, every table around me was a group of women, so if you bring your girlfriend here, you're guaranteed compliments! Also perfect for a blind date!!

What to order at Hey Joji: the menu

I love pasta and eat it often, so I thought I was already pretty familiar with the dish, but Hey Joji's menu felt a bit different from the start. I ordered the jambon butter cheddar pasta and the jambalaya rosé risotto.

With a big chunk of sausage on top, it looked delicious from the start. The spice wasn't too strong, so it was easy to enjoy without feeling overwhelmed. But beyond the flavor, the texture was really impressive — with brown rice and oats mixed in, each bite of grains had this crunchy, bouncy texture.

"How does it taste like this with this kind of texture?" — I kept marveling as I ate.

It was especially surprising that a risotto could have such a lively, textured bite.

Of all the risottos I've had, this one ranks among the most memorable, and I'd order it again next time. Honestly, I wanted to ask for the recipe.

Plump shrimp and tender squid were mixed in throughout, making the texture even more fun, and the added cheese powder was savory and paired beautifully with the rosé sauce.

Jambon butter cheddar pasta: rich, thick American flavor

Next up is the jambon butter cheddar pasta from Hey Joji, our Yeonnam-dong date restaurant.

I ordered this because I love jambon ham and cheese, and the salty savoriness of the jambon, the richness of the butter, and the heavy, gooey taste of cheddar cheese all came together for an overall bold, hearty flavor.

Scooping up the pasta and jambon together with the creamy, thick sauce made by the butter and cheddar cheese was such a great combination. This is what American flavor tastes like, I thought, and kept eating happily! Recommended if you want to try something unusual in a pasta dish!!

Is Hey Joji a good date spot in Yeonnam-dong?

Overall, the food quality was really good and the plating was pretty enough that I couldn't stop taking photos. The atmosphere was great even at lunch, but personally I'd love to visit again in the evening. If you're looking for a Western restaurant in Yeonnam-dong with a great atmosphere, or a spot for a special-day Yeonnam-dong date, Hey Joji is worth a visit. Both the pasta and risotto were delicious, so I'd recommend it to anyone looking for a good Yeonnam-dong restaurant!
