Chicken with Triple Potato Pizza at a Hongdae restaurant: Goobne
In short
Goobne Chicken Hongdae Red Road is a pub-style chicken restaurant on Red Road street in Hongdae, Mapo-gu, Seoul. For an annual couples' meetup, the writer ordered a whole Gochu Basasak (spicy crispy chicken) and a Triple Potato Pizza, and the spicy chicken and mild potato pizza traded off so well that the table kept reaching for more. Goobne Chicken Hongdae Red Road is a solid pick in Hongdae when a group needs shareable food beyond chicken alone.

There's a couples' meetup I have with a friend once a year without fail. Since the midpoint between us is around Hapjeong and Hongdae, this time we went to Goobne Chicken Hongdae Red Road, which had opened not long before. My friend's husband couldn't make it that day, so it was just the two of us meeting up haha

I'd only ever had Goobne Chicken delivered before, so eating it in person at such an atmospheric restaurant was a first, and I was kind of looking forward to it even before we got there.

Where is Goobne Chicken Hongdae Red Road, and what is the place like?
Goobne Chicken Hongdae Red Road sits right on the Red Road street in Hongdae, so it wasn't hard to find. When we got there, though, the vibe was a bit different from what I pictured for a typical chicken restaurant — even in the daytime, it had a real pub feel!

Especially with the weather this nice lately, the 1st floor can be used almost like a terrace, so it looked great for enjoying chicken and beer in that open-air yajang style.

2nd-floor seating and the big screen at Goobne Red Road
The 1st floor has tables and a bar area, and we headed up to the 2nd floor that day. Once we got upstairs, there were more seats than I expected, which was nice.

And there's a huge screen on one side playing music videos and music non-stop, which honestly livened up the mood a lot. The music got us both pumped up haha
It felt less like a spot just for eating chicken and more like a pub for friends to gather over chicken and beer. If you're looking for a meetup spot in Hongdae, I think people would really like this vibe!!

How to order at Goobne Chicken Hongdae Red Road, and what is on the menu
Once seated, you just order easily through the QR code on the table! When I hear "Goobne Chicken," I always think of just chicken, but looking through the menu I was genuinely surprised.

Besides chicken, there was pizza, Chicago pizza, tteokbokki (spicy rice cakes), dakbal (chicken feet), and more — way more drinking-food options than I expected. I had no idea Goobne had this much of a menu!!!🥹 It's honestly perfect as a drinking spot or meetup place in Hongdae haha

You can refill chicken radish and water at the self-bar on the 2nd floor!

Whole Gochu Basasak plus Triple Potato Pizza
What we ordered that day: 🍗 a whole Gochu Basasak (spicy crispy chicken) and 🍕 a Triple Potato Pizza — two items!

You can't talk about Goobne without Gochu Basasak. It's my usual favorite from their menu, so I picked it without a second thought.

And since just chicken alone felt like something was missing, we also ordered a pizza — this time going with the Triple Potato Pizza! In the end, this combo turned out to go really well together >< I got praised for my good pick haha

How did the Gochu Basasak taste?
That signature crispy Goobne look was as appetizing as ever. As you probably know, Goobne Chicken isn't deep-fried but oven-roasted, so it's noticeably less greasy than regular fried chicken, which I liked.
Crispy outside, juicy inside — I kept reaching for more. And true to its name, Gochu Basasak's whole point is that spicy, crispy hit. Even the breast meat, which I usually don't love, was tender enough that I could enjoy it!!

How well Triple Potato Pizza pairs with the spicy chicken
The pizza was piled high with wedge potatoes, plus really thin crispy potato bits on top, so the texture was great. Since the Gochu Basasak itself is a bit spicy, it paired really well with the mild, savory potato pizza.

A bite of chicken, then a bite of pizza — the spicy and the mild kept alternating, so we just kept eating lol

Marbling vs Gobbling sauce: what is the difference?
And you can't skip the sauces at Goobne Chicken! They gave us both Marbling and Gobbling sauce. The two seemed similar but actually felt a bit different.
From what I tasted, Gobbling was a bit thicker, while Marbling was relatively spicier.

Of course they're good with the chicken too, but I actually liked dipping the pizza in them even more!

Is Goobne Red Road a good meetup spot in Hongdae?
Eating there in person, I realized it's not just chicken — there are shareable menu items like pizza and tteokbokki that are great for a group, so there was plenty of choice. It looked like a good spot for friends to come for chicken and beer, or for a casual drink after work.

There was also an event posted when we visited — Budweiser draft for ₩4,900, all cocktails for ₩3,900!! *-* Prices reflect the event running at the time of our visit and may change, so it's worth checking before you go.
