High-protein chicken breast to go in Hongdae: Gochu Basasak, Goobne
In short
Goobne Chicken Hongdae Red Road (굽네치킨 홍대레드로드점) is a large, pub-style Goobne Chicken restaurant on Red Road, between Hapjeong and Hongik Univ. stations in Mapo, Seoul. After running errands in Hongdae, the writer picked up the boneless Gochu Basasak (chili-seasoned crispy oven chicken) breast for protein on the way home, and the oven-roasted breast with seasoning tasted light yet slightly spicy and salty. Goobne Chicken Hongdae Red Road works for anything from quick chicken takeout to outdoor chicken and beer and group dinners.

Why Goobne Chicken Hongdae Red Road for light chicken takeout in Hongdae
On my way home after running errands in Hongdae, I picked up boneless Gochu Basasak chicken breast for dinner from Goobne Chicken Hongdae Red Road (굽네치킨 홍대레드로드점). I couldn't decide what to eat, so I settled on simple chicken takeout, and since I've been paying a bit of attention to protein lately, I chose the boneless Gochu Basasak chicken breast from Goobne's menu!
This Goobne Chicken Hongdae Red Road is quite different in feel from your average neighborhood Goobne.

As you'd expect from a shop in the middle of Hongdae, it's pretty big, set up for takeout but also for outdoor drinking, group get-togethers and company dinners.

Since it's open late, it works for chicken and beer (chimaek) after a night out in Hongdae, and it's also a fine place to grab takeout like I did.
Exterior and outdoor tables: a good spot for Hongdae outdoor drinking?
The exterior is a bold red that's easy to spot from far away, and there are outdoor tables out front. Maybe because it's literally called the Red Road branch, it fits the Hongdae Red Road vibe well, and it feels like a mix of a chicken shop and a pub rather than a regular Goobne!

With the outdoor tables, it looked like a nice place for chicken and a beer outside on a good-weather day. In cool weather like now, it should suit anyone looking for outdoor drinking in Hongdae.
Menu and how to order at Goobne Chicken Hongdae Red Road
You order easily with the QR code on the table. The menu covers Goobne's signature Original and Gochu Basasak, with wings, drumsticks, whole legs, combos and boneless options to suit your taste.

It's not just chicken, either. There's a good range of sides too, like pizza, tteokbokki (spicy rice cakes), chibap (chicken rice), pasta and french fries.
Inside: a chicken shop like a red pub
The red of the exterior carries straight inside, and the first floor has bar tables and high chairs. The lighting and overall interior felt close to a casual pub.

Hongdae gets lots of foreign visitors, and I noticed they have an English menu too.

When I visited, quite a few people, foreign guests included, were enjoying chicken and beer inside.

Happy hour cocktails at ₩3,900 before 10 p.m.
One side of the shop had an eye-catching HAPPY HOUR cocktail event. Before 10 p.m., all cocktails are ₩3,900!

- ✔️ Rum & Coke
- ✔️ Vodka Cranberry
- ✔️ Gin & Tonic
Three kinds were listed, and at ₩3,900 a glass it's an easy price to enjoy lightly alongside chicken.

People were sharing chicken and fries in baskets with bottled beer, which is a proper chimaek atmosphere!!

Seeing bottled beer chilling in ice buckets, it's definitely a different vibe from the Goobne I pick up takeout from in my neighborhood!

The atmosphere was so good that I was briefly tempted to just eat there, haha... but I stuck to the plan and took it home.

How was the boneless Gochu Basasak chicken breast?
Goobne's boneless Gochu Basasak chicken breast is convenient since you don't have to pick around bones, and being all chicken breast, it's clean and easy to eat. This is the menu item I chose this time!

It isn't thickly battered fried chicken. It's oven-roasted chicken breast with Gochu Basasak's signature seasoning, so it tastes light yet slightly spicy and salty!

Who is Goobne Chicken Hongdae Red Road for?
I recommend Goobne Chicken Hongdae Red Road to anyone looking for chicken takeout in Hongdae, a casual chimaek outdoors, or a comfortable place in Hongdae for a group dinner with friends or coworkers!!
