Hapjeong Korean BBQ group tables and galbisal lunch: Gogikkun Gim
In short
Gogikkun Gim Chunbae Hongdae Main Branch is a charcoal-grill Korean BBQ restaurant in the Hapjeong and Hongdae area of Mapo, Seoul, a 7-minute walk from Hongik University Station, run with 19 years of know-how grilling fresh, never-frozen meat. Two of us booked ahead and came for lunch, ordering the hanwoo-handon set for two with diced rice and half-and-half cold noodles, and staff grilled and cut the hanwoo, fresh galbisal and pork belly in order at the table. Between the myeoljeot (salted anchovy dipping sauce), scallion salad and lettuce wraps, the two of us cleared the whole spread in no time.

Why we picked Gogikkun Gim Chunbae Hongdae Main Branch for lunch in Hapjeong
Gogikkun Gim Chunbae Hongdae Main Branch is a Korean BBQ restaurant grilling fresh meat over charcoal with 19 years of running know-how. We'd planned a day out in Mapo, and while looking for good restaurants nearby for lunch, I suddenly craved charcoal-grilled meat. That's how I found this place, made a reservation, and headed over.

The location was great — just a 7-minute walk from Hongik University Station. When we arrived out front, there was a big sign on top of the building plus a standing sign on the street, so it was easy to find.

Inside the 3rd-floor main hall and the group table for four
Excited, we headed up to the 3rd floor and found the main dining room. Walking in, there were plenty of spacious tables, which I loved. There were also tables set wide enough for four, so it seemed like a great spot for group gatherings or work dinners.

We sat down at our reserved table first to look at the menu.

What's on the menu at Gogikkun Gim Chunbae Hongdae Main Branch
Scanning the menu for what to order, there were hanwoo (Korean beef)/handon (Korean pork) sets for two, three, or four. Hanwoo sets came in two, three, or four-person sizes, and handon sets did too, plus a handon special set for two.

À la carte, there was hanwoo 1++ sirloin, galbisal, saeu-sal, and salchi-sal. For pork, they had pork belly, pork neck, galbisal, galmaegisal, hangjeongsal, and even pork skin. Sides covered everything: diced rice, doenjang jjigae fried rice, water/spicy cold noodles, half-and-half cold noodles, kimchi-mari noodles, chadol doenjang jjigae, kimchi jjigae, and steamed egg with rice. For drinks, there was distilled soju, soft drinks, beer, soju, non-alcoholic beer, and a whole lineup of highballs.

Ordering the hanwoo-handon set for two with diced rice and half-and-half cold noodles
After deciding among the options, we ordered the hanwoo-handon set for two, diced rice, and half-and-half cold noodles. After ordering, they brought out the side dishes and lettuce.

Then the main event — the meat — arrived. Doesn't it look amazing?

The moment it came out, I wanted to dig in immediately. One nice thing about this place is that staff grill everything to perfection for you.

Hanwoo grilled at your table, with salt and myeoljeot
They started us off with the hanwoo on the grill first.

As it grilled, this delicious smell wafted up.

I took a video of them grilling and cutting it into bite-sized pieces perfectly, so check that out.
We started with the well-grilled hanwoo dipped in salt — tender and so delicious. Definitely a great restaurant in Mapo.

It also paired beautifully with the myeoljeot. Eating it with the scallion salad was a great combo too. Wrapping it in lettuce was another way to enjoy it — so many ways to eat it, which I loved.
Half-and-half cold noodles with diced rice: how the combo eats
As we ate, the half-and-half cold noodles arrived. Meat and cold noodles are practically a must-pair, right? So we piled some meat on top of the noodles like this, and it was seriously delicious.

Then the diced rice arrived. I scooped up a big bite, and it really whetted the appetite.

Piling meat on top of it was just artwork.

Springy fresh galbisal and rich, nutty pork belly
While we were still eating the hanwoo, they started grilling the fresh galbisal for us next.

See how golden and well-cooked it looks? We took a bite once it was ready — so springy and delicious.

We had it with scallion salad too, and wrapped in lettuce it was just pure happiness. We also paired it with the diced rice.
Last up was the pork belly. We tried the well-grilled pork belly plain first, and the savory flavor was wonderful.

We dipped it in myeoljeot, ate it with wild chive (myeongi-namul), paired it with diced rice, and wrapped it in lettuce — the two of us cleared the whole spread in no time.
Is Gogikkun Gim Chunbae worth it for hanwoo and pork in one meal?
If you're heading to Mapo looking for good restaurants, or craving delicious handon and hanwoo, I'd recommend giving Gogikkun Gim Chunbae Hongdae Main Branch a try.
