Dessert café near Tanbang Station, Daejeon: mango pavlova at Dalke
In short
Dalke Dessert Cafe is a pavlova dessert café near Exit 5 of Tanbang Station in Seo-gu, Daejeon. At a window seat surrounded by plants, the writer had a pavlova topped with mango and passion fruit alongside an iced Americano; the meringue was crisp outside and chewy inside, and the sweet-tart fresh fruit kept the pavlova from feeling heavy. If you want something more unusual than ordinary cake, the mango pavlova at Dalke Dessert Cafe is a good pick.

I wanted to try a slightly different dessert in Daejeon, so I headed to Dalke Dessert Cafe (달케디저트카페) in Tanbang-dong. I eat cake and bread all the time, but cafés that specialize in pavlova are rare, so I was curious haha

This time I ordered a pavlova piled high with mango and an iced Americano, and took my time enjoying them haha

Where is Dalke Dessert Cafe, and what about parking?

Dalke Dessert Cafe is at 558 Gyeryong-ro, Seo-gu, Daejeon, on the first floor, near Tanbang Station. You can walk there from Exit 5, and it's fairly close to Lotte Department Store Daejeon, so it's an easy place to reach by public transport.
There's no dedicated parking lot, so if you're driving, it's best to check the nearby side streets or the public parking lot near Tanbang Station haha

Plant-filled glass storefront and interior atmosphere
The café sits on the ground floor along a big road, so it was easy to find even on my first visit. The white exterior wall with the green Dalke Dessert Cafe sign already felt fresh and leafy haha

The front is all glass, so you can see the plants filling the café from outside. Step through the door and the same mood carries on inside haha Personally, the interior was one of my favorite things about Dalke Dessert Cafe.

The ceiling and walls are neatly done in light colors, and there are so many plants, big and small, everywhere haha Not just around the tables: plants hang down from the ceiling and huge pots fill the space, so it felt a bit like a little greenhouse.

With the wood-tone tables and rattan chairs, the whole place felt warm and comfy haha The big window seats let in natural sunlight, so they looked especially pretty during the day. It's lovely to have coffee and dessert while looking out the window, so I took a window seat haha
Dalke's signature menu: seasonal fruit pavlova
The signature item at Dalke Dessert Cafe is, of course, the pavlova.

Pavlova is a dessert built on a meringue base, and Dalke reportedly sells several kinds made with seasonal fruit. It's fun that the lineup changes with the season, from strawberry or Shine Muscat grape to fruit mix and apple mango haha When I visited, I chose the mango pavlova.

To balance the dessert's sweetness, I ordered an iced Americano too haha After a short wait, the pavlova arrived looking far fancier than I'd expected. A round, plump meringue was topped with plenty of whipped cream, and chunky cut mango was piled on top haha

Mango also circled the base, and with passion fruit added, the yellows and oranges really popped. A little flower-shaped decoration on top made it the kind of dessert you photograph first haha
How did the mango pavlova taste and feel?
The meringue of Dalke's mango pavlova crumbles slightly crisp on the surface, and the deeper you go, the fluffy, chewy texture comes through. You notice it the moment you push your fork in.

The texture is clearly different from ordinary cake sponge, so it was quite fun from the first bite haha Eating it with soft whipped cream and sweet mango was a great combination. The passion fruit's tartness cut through the mango's rich sweetness, so it didn't get tiresome as quickly as I expected haha There's also a nutty, crunchy crumble at the bottom, which adds even more variety of texture together with the meringue, cream and fruit.

How to enjoy the pavlova, and how it pairs with an iced Americano
Rather than eating one part at a time, I'd recommend scooping up the meringue, cream and mango all in one bite haha As a sweet dessert, it paired quite well with the iced Americano. A bite of pavlova followed by a sip of cold Americano cleaned up the sweetness, and it made me reach for the dessert again haha
Honestly, I'd worried at first that the pavlova would be very sweet, but with so much fresh fruit it wasn't as heavy as I'd expected.

Who is Dalke Dessert Cafe right for?
I think Dalke's pavlova suits people who want a slightly different dessert instead of ordinary cake haha The dessert was good, but I also liked being able to relax slowly in a space full of green plants. If you're looking for a café near Tanbang Station or Lotte Department Store Daejeon, it would also work as a dessert stop after a meal haha
If you rarely come across pavlova like me, I think you'll have even more fun trying it. Next time I'd like to visit in another season and try pavlova topped with other fruit, like strawberry or Shine Muscat grape haha
