Jeongja Station meat restaurant: lamb rib sliced two ways, Nokji
In short
Nokji Bundang Jeongja Branch is a beef and lamb restaurant in Jeongja-dong, Bundang-gu, Seongnam, Gyeonggi. Two portions of lamb rib (150g for 32,000 won each) were grilled at the table by Nokji staff, sliced both with and against the grain to compare texture, and paired with pollock roe and scallion rice (myeongnan-pa-bap). Nokji Bundang Jeongja Branch is a good fit for a Jeongja-dong dinner where you'd rather focus on conversation than on the grill.

I've been eating meat for dinner a lot lately, but this time I went for something a little different — lamb, haha.

Today I'm introducing Nokji Bundang Jeongja Branch, a beef and lamb specialty restaurant in Jeongja-dong, Bundang. Lamb is tricky to grill at home — the smell and doneness are hard to control. At Nokji, staff grilled the meat from start to finish and explained how to eat it, so we could just relax and enjoy the meal, haha.

Location and parking for this Jeongja-dong lamb restaurant
Nokji Bundang Jeongja Branch sits on the ground floor near the office district of Jeongja-dong, Bundang. The roads around here get pretty congested on weekday evenings, so if you have a dinner appointment, it's better to leave a little early haha.

One nice thing about restaurants in this area is that many let you use the building's parking lot, and we drove there ourselves. We arrived around 5 p.m., a bit early, hoping to eat before the crowds came haha. But even after finding the right building, we couldn't spot the actual restaurant and ended up circling the block ㅋㅋ.

The sign has large characters for 牛 (beef) and 羊 (lamb), and for a second I thought we'd wandered into a different shop. Turns out we had the right place all along, haha. Since it's on the ground floor, once you find it, getting in is easy.

A Jeongja-dong lamb spot where staff grill everything for you
The inside of Nokji Bundang Jeongja Branch isn't a huge barbecue hall. Instead, it's set up so staff can grill at each table comfortably, which gave the meal a calmer feel, haha.
When we arrived, two or three other tables were already eating. I'd guess the place fills up with nearby office workers as it gets closer to evening. Personally, my favorite part of any barbecue place is having someone else grill for you, haha.

When you're grilling yourself, you have to keep an eye on the pan the whole time, which makes it hard to focus on conversation ㅋㅋ. At Nokji, staff handle everything from grilling to cutting, so you can just chat and wait, then eat it right when it's at its best.

Nokji menu and prices
Nokji Bundang Jeongja Branch's menu covers both beef and lamb. Beef options include aged raw galbi, MB9+ chuck flap, MB9+ chuck tender, and a specialty marinated grill, while lamb options include shoulder rack, French rack, raw lamb loin, and lamb rib.

Going by the menu photo I took, lamb rib was ₩32,000 for 150g. French rack was ₩34,000 for 200g, and shoulder rack was ₩32,000 for 200g. There's also a beef-lamb set, so if you're going with a group, trying both meats at once could be nice, haha. The menu noted that the restaurant only serves 100% chilled, aged meat.

The lamb rib we ordered
We ordered two servings of lamb rib that day. I usually go for shoulder rack or French rack when I eat lamb, but this time I wanted to try a different cut, haha.

They explained that lamb rib is cut directly from the rib bone. It came out with onion, scallion, mushroom, and minari (water dropwort) on the side. The meat's color was vividly fresh right from the start, which got me excited ㅋㅋ.

The staff member checked the pan as they grilled each piece, brushing on a little oil partway through so the moisture wouldn't cook off too much. Watching this, I could tell it was a whole different level from how carelessly I grill at home, haha.
Sliced with the grain vs. against the grain
Once the meat was cooked through, they cut it into bite-sized pieces and gave us an interesting explanation along the way. Slicing with the grain gives a chewier texture, while slicing against the grain gives a relatively softer one.
Curious, we asked them to cut it both ways, haha. Tasting them side by side, you could genuinely feel a subtle difference in texture, which made comparing them fun ㅋㅋ. The lamb's characteristic aroma wasn't too strong, and the meat itself was juicy, with a savory flavor that built the more you chewed.

Sauces served alongside the lamb
The basics included wasabi, a seasoned sauce, aged kimchi, and chili peppers to eat alongside the meat. My personal favorite was soy sauce with chili mixed in, haha. The salty umami of the soy sauce combined with the sharp kick of the chili really cleansed the palate between bites of rich meat.

Himalayan salt was also available, so for the first couple of pieces, we just dipped them lightly in salt. If you want to taste the meat itself, this simple approach worked well too, haha. Staff grilled onion, mushroom, and finally minari along with the meat. Personally, the toasty grilled onion paired with lamb rib beat out the minari and mushroom for me ㅋㅋ.

The mentaiko-scallion rice worth ordering too
For a rice dish, we also ordered mentaiko-scallion rice (명란파밥). When I first dictated notes on it, I accidentally said 'mentaiko pop-up' ㅋㅋ — but the actual name is mentaiko-scallion rice. It's rice piled generously with seaweed and scallion, topped with mentaiko (seasoned pollock roe) in the center. Mixed well, the salty tang of the mentaiko, the savoriness of the seaweed, and the scallion aroma all hit at once, and it went really well with the lamb, haha. After eating a good amount of meat, a bite of this rice felt much better than just meat alone. Honestly, it was as memorable to me that day as the lamb rib itself ㅋㅋ.
Overall thoughts on Nokji Bundang Jeongja Branch
Overall, Nokji stood out not just for serving meat, but for the service of grilling it for you and explaining how to eat each cut. Prices aren't exactly cheap, but factoring in not having to grill yourself and getting the meat at its best doneness, the satisfaction level was pretty solid, haha.
It would suit a date or dinner appointment in Jeongja-dong especially well if you're looking for somewhere with a bit of atmosphere to eat meat. Next time, I'd like to try the French rack and beef we didn't get to this time, and compare them ㅋㅋ.
