Retro Korean BBQ in Magok-naru, Seoul: steak for two, Ganeung Sikdang

In short

Ganeung Sikdang Magok-naru Station Branch is a retro-style Korean BBQ restaurant on the 2nd floor of Doosan The Land Park Building D, a short walk from Exit 2 of Magok-naru Station in Gangseo, Seoul. Two friends ordered two servings of the evenly grilled flat iron steak at 19,900 won with Chum Churum soju, and the meat arrived already grilled, so there was no cooking at the table. The olive-garlic special sauce was the best pairing, and the wide room with large group tables would also suit a company dinner.

I went for dinner with a friend not long ago to Ganeung Sikdang Magok-naru Station Branch. We were trying to figure out where to go since my friend loves meat, and we ended up here — the atmosphere was better than expected and the menu was surprisingly varied. Beyond the meat dishes, there were plenty of meal options too, so it seemed like a solid pick for anyone searching for Magok-naru lunch, solo dining in Magok, or good lunch spots in Magok.

It was our first visit, and we found it easily by taking the escalator near the blue sculpture. The building itself was clean, and with parking available, it's easy to visit by car too.

Riding the escalator up to the 2nd floor and stepping inside, I was a little surprised. It wasn't the usual look of a modern Korean BBQ place — the interior had a distinct retro vibe. That old-school feel was subtly charming haha. The tables were spaced out generously so it never felt cramped, and there was proper group seating too, which would work well for company dinners or gatherings. It also seemed good for family outings, meetups with friends, or even dates. The place was genuinely spacious, so we could eat at a relaxed pace. I get now why so many people search for Korean BBQ restaurants near Magok-naru.

What's on the menu at Ganeung Sikdang?

Once we sat down and looked at the menu, there were way more options than I expected. Just among the signature dishes: handmade pork cutlet dry-and-wet-aged for two weeks, mountain-piled fire-flavored stir-fried pork, the softest dry-aged pork neck, dry-aged prime rib cap, dry-aged pork belly, beef doenjang stew, boiled pork rice soup, bibim noodles, kimchi fried rice, tteokbokki, and steamed egg.

New menu items also caught my eye — truffle jjagyechi (fried chicken and cheese combo) and a cheese-and-ham-stuffed rolled egg. Next time I want to come back focused on the meal menu and try a bunch of things. The lunch options looked good too, so I'd recommend this place to anyone searching for Magok-naru lunch or good lunch spots in Magok.

What we ordered: evenly grilled flat iron steak, 19,900 won

Since my friend and I are both meat lovers, after some deliberation we ordered two servings of the evenly grilled flat iron steak (₩19,900). It's described as top-grade prime flat iron steak, and just reading that built up my expectations. Best of all, it comes already grilled! At most BBQ places you're busy grilling it yourself, but here you just get to eat comfortably haha.

The side dishes that come with the steak

Basic side dishes set out before the meat arrives

Before the meat arrived, the side dishes were set out first.

Side dishes including shredded scallion, salted galchi innards, and olive-garlic special sauce

The spread included shredded scallion, perilla leaf salad, kimchi, lettuce, doenjang, wasabi, salted galchi (hairtail) innards, and the olive-garlic special sauce — a more substantial lineup than I expected. The olive-garlic special sauce especially stood out; the garlic flavor combined with the nutty richness of olive worked really well with the meat. The shredded scallion was crisp and not over-seasoned, so I kept going back for more. Each side dish was neatly presented, and when we ran low, the staff kindly refilled them.

The steak arrives already grilled

Pre-grilled flat iron steak for two servings

Soon after, our flat iron steak arrived. It looked seriously appetizing right off the bat.

Onions and sauce topped the steak, and the surface had a nicely browned sear. There was a savory aroma that hinted at butter.

A bite-sized piece of the flat iron steak, pre-cut

It came pre-cut into easy bite-sized pieces, and the first bite had a nice texture — firm on the outside, tender inside. The signature juiciness of flat iron steak came through, growing more savory with each chew, and it wasn't tough at all so it was easy to enjoy.

Eating it together with the onions added a bit of sweetness that made the flavor even better.

Topping it with a bit of shredded scallion brought out the meat's nuttiness even more, and pairing it with wasabi or the salted galchi innards gave it a big boost of umami.

Personally, the olive-garlic special sauce combo was my favorite. The savory meat juices blending with the garlic flavor made it impossible to stop reaching for more.

A good spot in Magok-naru for drinks and a group dinner

Chum Churum soju ordered alongside the meat

Meat obviously needs a drink to go with it haha. We also ordered a bottle of Chum Churum soju.

The tender flat iron steak paired really well with the cold soju. Chatting away with my friend and eating slowly, we lost track of time. The relaxed atmosphere made it a great spot to enjoy a meal with a drink.

Verdict: is Ganeung Sikdang worth a visit?

A spacious, comfortable restaurant with retro character, a varied menu, friendly service, and delicious meat all made for a satisfying visit. The pre-grilled flat iron steak in particular was easy to enjoy without any hassle, and the range of side dishes and sauces kept it tasty all the way through.

The value for money felt solid, and the space was impressively large — good for group dinners. Next time I'd like to try the dry-aged pork belly or prime rib cap, plus the new truffle jjagyechi and the cheese-and-ham-stuffed rolled egg. It was such a satisfying meal with my friend that I'd like to come back with my parents next time. If you're looking for a good Korean BBQ restaurant in Magok, Magok-naru, or near Magok-naru Station, this place is worth a visit.
