Wondang café on a rainy evening: chocolate cake & salt bread, Baedagol
In short
Baedagol Bakery House is a bakery café in Wondang, Deogyang-gu, Goyang, Gyeonggi. The writer visited on a heavily rainy evening, when only about 4 groups were inside, and had a hot americano, chocolate cake and salt bread, though much of the bread had already sold out by then. Baedagol Bakery House is a quiet spot to unwind to the sound of rain, but go in the daytime for a wider choice of bread.

A few days ago, on an evening when it was really pouring, I went out for a little fresh air at Baedagol Bakery House (배다골베이커리하우스) in Wondang, Goyang. The vibe looked great in photos and I'd been wanting to go for ages, and since it was raining and likely to be quiet, I picked the evening. To start with the conclusion: it's a place I definitely want to come back to on a nice-weather day.

Is parking easy at Baedagol Bakery House?
Baedagol Bakery House has a big parking lot, so coming by car was really easy. Even on a day with this much rain, parking wasn't hard and I could get right up to the entrance. On a rainy day an easy parking lot matters more than you'd think, and I was really happy with this.

Daisies at the entrance and the outdoor lawn garden
Walking in, the first thing I noticed was the cute daisies. They're planted so adorably that they photographed beautifully. The rain made the flowers look even fresher, too.
The outdoor space was prettily done as well, but because of the rain I could only look around, not use it. With the lawn and tables so nicely laid out, it would have been lovely to have a coffee outside if the weather had been good. Next time I'd like to come on a cool spring or fall day and relax out there.

Fans to borrow for outdoor guests
One fun thing! On one side of Baedagol Bakery House, fans are set out for you to borrow. It seems to be a kindness for guests sitting outside in summer, and I liked that thoughtful touch. It's a small thing, but it feels like they really think about their customers.

Will there still be bread if you go in the evening?
Visiting late in the evening, much of the bread at Baedagol Bakery House had already sold. If it's your first visit and you want to see the full variety of bread, I'd recommend going in the daytime if you can.
Still, even among what was left, quite a few looked delicious, one showcase held cakes, and the remaining bread was neatly packaged. Honestly, with fewer choices I may have agonized less, haha.

The mood at Baedagol Bakery House on a rainy evening
On this rainy evening there were only about 4 groups inside, so very few customers. That's probably because I went in the evening and it was coming down hard. I'd heard it's usually crowded, so being able to drink coffee at leisure in such a quiet atmosphere was actually nice.

Quiet music was playing and I could hear the rain outside the window, so the atmosphere was wonderful. If you like moments like this, I'd recommend a rainy-evening visit too.

Inside: 1st and 2nd floors
The inside of Baedagol Bakery House spans the 1st and 2nd floors and is more compact than I expected. Because of the rain, it felt even calmer. It probably has a different feel when it's crowded, but I personally really liked a quiet mood like this day's.

How were the hot americano, chocolate cake and salt bread?
At Baedagol Bakery House I ordered a hot americano, chocolate cake, and the breads I'd been wanting to eat.

On a rainy day, warm coffee is the best. One sip of the hot americano and my whole body felt warm.

The americano wasn't very acidic and had a clean style, so it went really well with the bread. It's easy to drink on its own and good alongside dessert.
The chocolate cake wasn't very sweet, which I liked. It was moist with a rich chocolate flavor, and paired with coffee it was great. The salt bread (a buttery roll with a salted crust) had a subtle butter aroma and a nice texture, and I finished it quickly.

Everything looked delicious so I greedily picked a bit of everything, but I got full fast, haha. I packed up the leftover bread and brought it to my family, and they all said it was good, which made me weirdly proud. As you'd expect from a bakery café, the bread quality was satisfying, and next time I want to go in the daytime, when the widest variety is out, and try several kinds.

The downside: next time, a nice-weather day
The biggest disappointment of this visit to Baedagol Bakery House was not being able to use the outdoor space. It looked pretty in photos, but in person the atmosphere was even better. I couldn't stay long because of the rain, but next time I'd like to come on a sunny day, sit at an outdoor table and enjoy coffee and bread. I'm looking forward to seeing how it feels as the seasons change.
Overall verdict
Baedagol Bakery House was a really nice place to spend a quiet rainy evening. It was good for a cup of coffee in a calm atmosphere, and the bakery items were tasty, so it was a satisfying visit. Next time I'd like to go in the daytime, when the shelves are full of different breads.
Parking is easy and the space is roomy, so it's also good for a drive. If you're looking for an atmospheric bakery café in Goyang, I'd recommend it, and anyone looking for a café on a drive toward Ilsan, or a quiet Wondang café to relax in, might want to stop by once.
