Chicken makhani with garlic naan at Namaste, Jongno Indian restaurant
In short
Namaste Dongmyo Branch is an Indian and Nepalese restaurant on the second floor right in front of Exit 5 of Dongmyoap Station in Jongno, Seoul. For dinner, a married couple ordered the couple's set (50,000 won), which brought samosas, chicken tikka, shrimp chili, chicken makhani and vegetable curry, garlic naan, plain rice and a mango lassi. The best combination at Namaste Dongmyo Branch was dipping the big pieces of garlic naan into the creamy chicken makhani.

My husband and I went out for dinner at Namaste Dongmyo Branch this time. We already love curry and naan so we go for Indian food fairly often, but this time instead of just ordering a single curry, we tried the couple's set that comes with samosas, chicken tikka, shrimp chili, and two kinds of curry. Let me walk you through the spread — it turned out to be surprisingly generous for two people :)

Parking is free in the building's lot on weekdays if a spot is available, but on weekends you'll need to use a nearby public parking lot, apparently.
How to walk there from Dongmyoap Station Exit 5

Namaste Dongmyo Branch is right in front of Exit 5 of Dongmyo Station. There's a big orange sign on the building so it wasn't hard to spot, and the restaurant itself is on the 2nd floor.
Inside the second-floor dining room

We went up to the 2nd floor and walked in, and it was way more spacious inside than I expected. The moment we stepped in, it really felt like India. There were statues and decorations on the walls, and the lighting and wall design had an exotic feel to them, so it was fun just to look around.

There were plenty of seats too, and the tables weren't crammed together, so we got to eat comfortably as a couple.
What comes in the 50,000 won couple's set

We wanted to try a bunch of things at once, so we ordered the couple's set. It comes with samosas, chicken tikka, shrimp chili, two curries, naan, and rice, and we chose mango lassi for the drink.

The full table, dish by dish

The food didn't take long to come out, but once everything was set down one by one, the table was completely full. It was surprisingly generous for two people.
Chicken tikka and shrimp chili

The chicken tikka came in bite-sized pieces, easy to pick up one by one, and the shrimp chili had shrimp stir-fried together with onion and bell pepper.
Trying samosa for the first time

This was my first time trying samosa. The outside was fried crisp, and when we split it in half, it was packed with more potato and vegetables than I expected.

You could taste a hint of spice, but dipping it in the ketchup that came alongside worked really well. It wasn't as intense a flavor as I expected — more mild, with the potato and vegetable flavor coming through strongly.
Chicken makhani or vegetable curry: which one we liked more

And now the curry I'd been waiting for the whole time! The couple's set comes with both chicken makhani and vegetable curry. The chicken makhani was soft and creamy, with big chunks of chicken inside. I generally love this style of curry, so between the two, chicken makhani was more my taste. It was great piled generously over rice, and just as good dipped with naan. The vegetable curry had a variety of vegetables in it, so it had more texture and bite compared to the chicken makhani. Since the two flavors were so different, switching between them kept things interesting.
Garlic naan and plain rice

The garlic naan was bigger than I expected when it arrived — it nearly covered the whole basket, with garlic scattered across the surface.
It was tasty on its own too, but dipping it into the curry was definitely the best way to eat it. In particular, the combination of chicken makhani and garlic naan was my favorite thing we ate that day.

Plain rice came with the set too, and since I couldn't give up either the naan or the rice, I ended up piling curry on the rice and dipping the naan as well. With two kinds of curry to mix and match, it all disappeared fast.
Mango lassi as the set drink
Among tea, lassi, and yogurt, we chose mango lassi. It was sweet and smooth, so it was nice to sip between bites of the curry and spiced dishes.
Is the Namaste Dongmyo couple's set enough for two people?
We ordered just one couple's set, and it came with samosas, chicken tikka, shrimp chili, two curries, naan, and rice — plenty to leave us both full. Out of everything, the combination of chicken makhani and garlic naan was the tastiest to me, and since it's right by Dongmyo Station, it's convenient to stop by for a meal after browsing the Dongmyo flea market. If you're looking for good curry near Dongmyo Station or want to try a variety of Indian dishes at once, the couple's set is worth ordering :)
