In short

Ongfleur (옹플뢰르) is a brunch restaurant tucked down an alley off Hoenamu-ro 44-gil, near Itaewon Station in Yongsan, Seoul. On a sunny weekday, the writer and a friend took a full-length window seat at Ongfleur and ordered smoked salmon eggs Benedict, shrimp oil pasta, a blueberry yogurt smoothie and a cherry ade, and loved the thick salmon, generous shrimp and sunlit window seats. For a quiet weekday brunch in Itaewon with a great atmosphere, Ongfleur's window seats are well worth it.

One nice weekday, I went to Ongfleur, a brunch spot near Itaewon Station, with a friend. It's memorable for more than the food: the sunlight pouring through the big windows and the cozy, stylish interior make it perfect for brunch. In this post I'll walk you through the smoked salmon eggs Benedict, the shrimp oil pasta, the blueberry and cherry drinks, and the atmosphere of the place.

I walked over from Itaewon Station, passing lots of fancy houses on the way, and arrived at Ongfleur. It sits deep in a side street, and it felt quiet and unhurried.

We ordered the best-selling brunch dishes, the smoked salmon eggs Benedict and the shrimp oil pasta, plus the best-selling drinks, the blueberry yogurt smoothie and the cherry ade.

We grabbed a sunny window seat, and it was seriously pretty. The sunlight through the big windows makes photos come out naturally good, and it's a lovely spot to chat with a friend and eat slowly.

Another area has a table for 6, which would be great for a get-together. The tables are fairly spaced out too, so the roomy feel is comfortable to look at.

How do Ongfleur's blueberry yogurt smoothie and cherry ade taste?

Ongfleur's blueberry yogurt smoothie was sweet and rich, and the cherry ade had a fizzy freshness that went well with the brunch dishes. The drinks came out first, and I loved how they looked right away. With the blueberry-topped smoothie and the zesty cherry ade side by side, I couldn't not take photos. The glasses are so pretty, and with the blueberries and mint on top they look cool just sitting there. It was a hot day, so they were perfect ice-cold.

What is Ongfleur's smoked salmon eggs Benedict like?

The smoked salmon eggs Benedict comes with quite thick salmon, and the combination of poached egg yolk, bread and salmon was great. The colors were so pretty when it arrived that a "wow" just slipped out.

Plated smoked salmon eggs Benedict at Ongfleur

The smoked salmon, salad and poached egg were plated beautifully, and it even came with dragon fruit and passion fruit, which was a bonus. When I cut into the egg, the yolk ran out, and it went so well with the bread and smoked salmon. The salmon was thick, which I was happy about. Eaten with the salad, it was fresh and delicious.

Ongfleur's shrimp oil pasta beat my expectations

The shrimp oil pasta we ordered with it also beat my expectations. It had plenty of shrimp, the noodles were cooked just right with a nice texture, and the oil wasn't excessive, so it never felt heavy. One bite, two bites, and I kept going back for more.

Looking out the window as we ate, the calm of a weekday made me so happy. There were a fair number of people that day, but it was still quiet enough to chat.

Verdict: is Ongfleur worth it for a weekday brunch in Itaewon?

Overall, Ongfleur satisfied me for the atmosphere as much as the taste. The brunch dishes look great and taste great, and I loved how comfortable the space felt. If you're looking for a nice brunch café near Itaewon, I'd recommend dropping by once. Brunch at a sunny window seat really puts you in a good mood. I think it would work for a catch-up with friends and also be a hit as a date spot.
