Ring engraving class in Yeonsinnae, Seoul: dad's handwriting at Munak

Today I visited Munak, a silver jewelry studio in Eunpyeong-gu! This time I tried something a bit special — making jewelry through wax carving ♥️ ✨Free to design✨ meant I could fully express a style I'd always wanted to try, and I loved that so much~!

How to walk to Munak from Yeonsinnae Station

I got there by public transit, and since it's fairly close to Yeonsinnae Station, finding it was easy and stress-free :) There's a cute sign with the Munak logo on it, so even first-time visitors should be able to spot it easily!

The entrance is on the right side of the building. Go up to the 2nd floor and Munak is wide open and welcoming!

Maybe because it's a recently opened studio, everything felt really clean and pretty. Classes also run in small groups, so it was easy to focus while working.

In one corner, Munak's own jewelry pieces are on display, which was great for browsing and getting design ideas!!

There's everything from rings to necklaces and bracelets, and apparently they're preparing various new classes, including a pet nose-print jewelry workshop!! I'm so looking forward to that opening 🥹

How does Munak's wax carving one-day workshop work?

First you have a consultation with the owner, who was really kind and easy to talk to! It's nice if you bring design samples, and I'd also recommend chatting beforehand through KakaoTalk 🌟

Put on an apron and started making the ring!

I was doing the ring-making experience, and apparently this donut-shaped wax becomes the ring!!

Carving the ring to my size and shaping the thickness

First you have to carve the ring down to the right size, and carving it evenly is the key challenge!! It can feel a bit tricky the first time, but wax carving lets you make all kinds of designs and is easy to fix, so you can enjoy it without much pressure!

You just slowly shape it your own way and spend a relaxing, healing time :)

Once the ring is carved to size, you adjust the thickness and smooth out the curves for a comfortable fit!

There were all kinds of tools I'd never seen before, which was so fascinating, and every step was explained kindly, which made me feel at ease! Honestly this part was my favorite haha, I loved how it got smoother and smoother as I sanded it back and forth.

The wave design, and calling the owner for an SOS

Next came the highlight!! Designing. To create the wave pattern, I used a tool to carve into the wax and build it up.

She told me it's easy to fix so I should just relax and try it, but I ended up with a pretty rough-looking mess and immediately called for SOS ^^..

The owner checked in and showed me how to fix it, over and over ㅜㅜ It was almost unbelievable how it turned pretty the moment her hands touched it..

Trying it on to get a feel for it..!! Since it was my first time wax carving, I did wonder for a moment whether I'd chosen too difficult a design, but since the ring carried real meaning, I gave it my all.

Still, as I kept going my skills clearly improved, and the ring I'd imagined slowly started to appear!!

I did my best, and for the trickiest parts the owner finished it off for me, so it came out beautifully! Even if you make it yourself, you still don't want it to look ugly haha. I was so glad she smoothed it out so nicely~

Engraving dad's handwriting and getting the ring by courier

Another thing I loved: you can add any engraving you want! You can copy an exact handwriting style, and also choose where the engraving goes — that was great.

I had my dad's handwriting engraved exactly as it is, and now every time I look at it I think of him — it feels even more special and meaningful.

There are two pickup options, in-person or courier, and I chose courier! It was packaged so nicely it would make a great gift too~ This was my first ever wax carving jewelry workshop, and I loved that it was both healing and meaningful.

Was Munak's wax carving class worth it? Final review
