Today I visited Munak, a wax carving couple ring workshop that's a great pick for an unusual date in Yeonsinnae!

Where Munak is, how much it costs, and what's allowed

Munak is located at 23 Tongil-ro 83-gil, 2nd floor, Eunpyeong-gu, Seoul. That's 404m from Exit 7 of Yeonsinnae Station.

To celebrate MUNAK's opening, they were running a promotion at ₩98,000, discounted from the regular price, until September 30. *Additional costs may apply depending on the design's size and weight, gems, plating, engraving and other extra options.

As someone who loves one-day classes, I couldn't pass up this fascinating wax carving ring-making event! So I made a reservation right away at Munak in Yeonsinnae and headed over to this neat little studio haha.

Design consultation and measuring your ring size

So exciting~~ the first time is always the most nerve-wracking! The friendly owner sits with you here and helps you design your ring!

I looked at the rings on display beforehand to imagine what ring I'd want to wear.

Whoa, necklaces and bracelets were possible too?

Hehe, after chatting with the friendly owner about the ring design I wanted to make, we moved on to measuring the ring size I'd be making.

And now, finally, time to actually make the ring! You just change into the apron below first.

Ooh... I checked out the equipment too. There was such a variety of tools, perfect for making whatever shape you want!

Carving the wax: the wave shape and iron texture

First you use this tool to adjust to the right ring size! A ring where you even shape the size yourself... the process of building it up piece by piece felt so precious. I was curious how this ring would turn out.

Now it's time to carve the ring! You use the tool on the right to trace the lines and grind it down.

Scrape, scrape, scrape... this is actually kind of fun?

Once you've ground it all down, you draw the design with a marker pen and then grind along it. Don't worry, the marker comes off haha!

Then you grind away the black part. The owner was so kind and kept helping me the whole time. No matter how messy I made it, she always found a way to save it! Total magic hands!!

This is the design I wanted!! A wave? Or maybe an ocean wave shape? I really wanted to try a design that's only possible with wax carving.

Kept grinding away diligently. She refined it with such delicate care.

And then, the soldering iron!!! Isn't that so cool? I wanted a texture where you melt the wax and lift it off slightly! This felt like the texture that's truly suited to wax carving — not something you see every day, right?

Be careful, it's hot haha. If you lift off too much, you can also add wax back to fill it in.

Fingerprint, face and hand-written engraving options

Hehe... I also wanted to leave a fingerprint, and get an engraving, and basically I'm the type of person who does everything possible... I melted the wax a little, pressed in my fingerprint, and stamped a face engraving into it too.

You shape it like the ring on the left, then pull it out like the ring on the right! Isn't that so cool??

And then she said English engraving was possible inside the band too... I was about to add that, but wait, what??!! You mean I could get engraved in my own actual handwriting? That's insane???? So I tried writing something out.

Receiving the finished ring by courier, with its certificate

Hehe, and it really arrived so quickly!! The package showed up — in-store pickup was hard for me, so I got it delivered by courier! So exciting... it was small, but packed with all sorts of things inside.

Ah, so pretty♥️♥️ The ring arrived with the engraving perfect and not a single scratch.

There's even a warranty card included, so quality assurance is possible too haha!

Honest review: is Munak worth a Yeonsinnae date?

If you're looking for an unusual date in Yeonsinnae, I really~~~ want to recommend making a wax carving couple ring at Munak. At first I wondered if carving the wax yourself to make a ring would be difficult, but the owner kindly walked me through everything step by step, so even as a first-timer I was able to make something I was happy with. In particular, the process of drawing, carving and refining the exact shape I wanted was genuinely fun.

Since it's not the kind of ring design you see everywhere — I got to add my own wave shape and texture myself — I was looking forward to seeing how it would turn out even before it was finished. Since you can add things like your fingerprint or an engraving yourself, this also seems like a great date for couples to make rings for each other.

Rather than just browsing and picking out a ring, having a hands-on process to actually make one yourself makes it special, so if you're looking for a unique date in Yeonsinnae, I recommend Munak!
