Sokcho egg tart bakery revisit: 3-minute air fryer reheat, Doris

In short

Doris Patisserie is an egg tart bakery at the entrance of Sokcho Central Market in Sokcho, Gangwon, selling freshly baked tarts for reserved pickup three times a day, at 10am, 12pm and 3pm. A couple who couldn't forget their first taste returned for the 12pm batch, picked up an original box and a cream cheese box, ate one on the spot and reheated the rest at home in an air fryer for 3 minutes. Even on a second visit, the Doris Patisserie egg tarts were crisp and moist enough to surprise them again from the first bite.

We stopped by on an earlier Sokcho trip and couldn't forget the taste, so we went back to this Sokcho egg tart spot again this time, haha.

Even on the second visit, the first bite surprised us again.

Where is Doris Patisserie? Location, hours and parking

Doris Patisserie is at 26 Jungangno 147beon-gil, 1st floor, Sokcho-si, Gangwon, at the entrance of Sokcho Central Market, and it is open daily 10:00–16:30. Break times are 11:00–12:00 and 13:00–15:00.

There's no parking lot and no parking tickets. The area in front of the shop is crowded and there's a risk of being ticketed, so a nearby paid lot is recommended. The Sokcho Tourism & Fish Market lot is about a 4-minute walk.

The sign is pink, so it stands out from far away. It's a handy food stop while browsing Sokcho Central Market :)

We booked the 12:00 batch! We arrived about 5 minutes before noon, the door was still closed, and everyone was lining up in the direction posted for reserved customers.

Inside Doris Patisserie: egg tart box menu and prices

The shop is small, so only up to 6 people can go inside at a time. The showcase was lined with egg tarts, financiers (small almond butter cakes) and madeleines, and my eyes lit up the moment I saw them ✨

They have drinks too, but takeout only.

How do freshly baked Doris Patisserie egg tarts taste?

Warm egg tart taken out in front of the shop
Egg tart with visible pastry layers

Since they're made on the spot, the warmth came straight through to my hand. I couldn't wait and ate one right outside the shop, haha. The top is deeply scorched in patches and the sides show layer upon layer of pastry, so even the look says Portuguese style!

When I bit in, the outer pastry shattered with a crackle, and the thick tart was filled to the very edge. The filling is smooth and moist with a rich egg flavor, and it melts softly in your mouth 🥹 Crispy and moist in one bite, and it's easy to see why this is a famed Sokcho egg tart spot.

We ate the rest at home, and the instructions for eating and storing were printed inside the box, so there was no need to look anything up, which was handy.

How to reheat egg tarts in an air fryer and how long they keep

The box says to heat in an air fryer or oven at 180℃ for 2–3 minutes, and to store at room temperature for the day, in the fridge for 2 days, or in the freezer for 2 weeks.

  • Eating on the day of purchase is best (recommended)
  • Air fryer or oven at 180℃ for 2–3 minutes
  • Freeze, then thaw slightly, for an ice cream-like texture
  • Microwave not recommended: the pastry turns soggy
  • Storage: room temperature same day / fridge 2 days / freezer 2 weeks

We ran ours in the air fryer for about 3 minutes, and the outside turned crisp again while the filling stayed moist! It tasted just like when we first ate one in front of the shop. Highly recommend this method 👍

Comparison of original and cream cheese egg tarts

Original vs cream cheese egg tart: what's the difference?

The original egg tart at Doris Patisserie is centered on egg flavor, true to the basics of an egg tart.

The cream cheese egg tart is different from the cross-section onward. The filling has a soft, curdy texture, and the cheese flavor comes through more clearly in each bite. If the original is the standard, cream cheese feels like one more layer of flavor on top! I'm team cream cheese and my husband is team original, so our tastes split perfectly and we shared them happily, haha.

  • Original box ₩15,000, cream cheese box ₩16,800 (boxes of 6)
  • A Sokcho bakery that's a great stop for Sokcho Central Market food, and at home 3 minutes in an air fryer makes the tarts crisp again
