Suwon burger restaurant lettuce bun for diet days: Base Burger

In short

Base Burger Gwanggyo Avenue France Branch is a handmade burger restaurant in Suwon, Gyeonggi, on the second floor of Gwanggyo Avenue France. I tried a Base Burger set with a fresh lettuce wrap, plus chili mozzarella cheese bars, chicken tenders, and coleslaw. Verdict: a satisfying burger option for days when bread feels like too much.

Lately, while trying to manage my diet, burger cravings have been the most awkward thing. If I think only about the patty and vegetables, it doesn't seem so bad, but once I have the bun and fries too, suddenly I'm like, “Let's just call today a cheat day...” haha

A great Gwanggyo burger spot where swapping the bun for fresh lettuce still lets you enjoy a handmade burger, with fun sides to choose from in a lovely setting.

Ordering a lettuce burger at Gwanggyo Avenue France

I was at Gwanggyo Avenue France this time and found a burger place where you can replace the bun entirely with lettuce, so I gave it a try. As you can see, the wine-colored exterior really catches your eye~&& It somehow looks fancy~;;

Base Burger Gwanggyo Avenue France Branch feels a little like walking into a Hermès store, thanks to that burgundy color.

Base Burger Gwanggyo Avenue France Branch is on the second floor, and the burgundy color and big BAS BURGER sign stand out right from the entrance.

Once inside, the restaurant went farther back than I expected, with lots of tables.

With its brown-toned walls and soft lighting, it feels more like an atmospheric handmade-burger restaurant than a fast-food place where you just eat and leave. The floor-to-ceiling windows make it feel open, and there are plenty of tables, so it looked like a nice, relaxed place for a date meal too.

A Base Burger swapped from bun to lettuce

Diet-version Base Burger~! Protecting both the flavor and the scale!

Base Burger order changed to a lettuce wrap

I ordered the Base Burger set, and this time I went for the diet version. haha I changed the burger bun to lettuce and chose sparkling water for my drink too.

Honestly, it was my first bunless burger, so I wondered, “Isn't this just vegetables wrapped around meat?” But I was much more satisfied than expected. The lettuce wasn't limp at all; it was big and very fresh, with enough of it to fully wrap the patty, tomato, and onion.

Fresh lettuce wrapping a patty and tomato

With a bite, the crisp, tender lettuce comes first instead of bread, so the whole thing feels much fresher. But it doesn't stop feeling like a burger, and with a proper patty inside, it was surprisingly filling too.

If you're looking for a good burger near Gwanggyo Jungang Station but hesitating because you're managing your diet, this combination is worth trying once. On a day when I'm craving a burger like crazy after working out, I think I'd order it this way again. haha

For sides, I ordered chili mozzarella cheese bars, chicken tenders, and coleslaw too.

Mozzarella cheese bars topped with chili sauce

The chili mozzarella cheese bars came generously topped with sweet-and-spicy chili sauce, and when you cut into them with a fork, the cheese stretches right out. It's a little hard to insist this is diet food... but this is something you eat once with your eyes and once with your mouth. haha

Chicken tenders and coleslaw sides

The chicken tenders were crisp outside and nicely thick inside, while the coleslaw was crunchy without being overly salty or intense, making it good alongside burgers or fried food. The portions were more generous than expected too, so ordering a few sides to share worked well.

It's a nice place to stop by when you're exploring the Gwanggyo café street and craving a handmade burger, and because it's inside Avenue France, it's convenient for visiting a café or looking around nearby before or after your meal.

Overall

More than anything, on days when I want a burger but don't want to completely abandon my diet, being able to swap the bun for lettuce was what stayed with me most. It feels like you're gaining a little less weight even after eating a burger. Of course, the moment I ate the chili mozzarella cheese bars too, that logic did fall apart a little. haha

  • Even with the bun swapped for lettuce, the generous patty and vegetables made it more filling than expected.
  • The lettuce was fresh and tender, making the whole burger feel much fresher.
  • The chili mozzarella cheese bars delivered sweet-and-spicy sauce and the fun of stretchy cheese.
  • There are many side options, including chicken tenders and coleslaw, so it's easy to enjoy several dishes together.
  • With spacious tables, atmospheric lighting, and floor-to-ceiling windows, it also works well for a Gwanggyo date meal.
