Couple's Busan trip: abalone and steak pot rice at Solsot Gwangalli

In short

Solsot Gwangalli (솔솥 광안리점) is a Korean restaurant specialising in sotbap (rice cooked in a stone pot) in Gwangalli, Suyeong, Busan. It is a branch of Solsot, which draws queues in Seomyeon. On a Busan trip, a couple ordered abalone pot rice, steak pot rice and a side of yurinki (fried chicken in a tangy soy sauce) at Solsot Gwangalli, then finished with nurungji (scorched rice). Solsot Gwangalli serves a neat pot rice meal in a wood-toned dining room and is a good dinner spot to pair with the Gwangalli drone show.

A pot rice restaurant in Gwangalli on our Busan trip: Solsot Gwangalli

Solsot Gwangalli (솔솥 광안리점) is a tidy pot rice (solbap, rice cooked in an individual iron pot) restaurant in Gwangalli. My husband and I were on a Busan trip and wanted a clean, proper Korean meal, so I searched for rice places in Gwangalli ^^ Solsot is famous for neat pot rice, so we went :) I heard the place people queue for in Seomyeon had opened a branch in Gwangalli, so I went in really excited..!! (happy tears)

What's the atmosphere at Solsot Gwangalli like?

Solsot Gwangalli has a warm wood-toned interior with soft lighting. I fell for the decor the second we walked in 😊 It's comfortable but still has real atmosphere.

It's near the Gwangalli drone show, so it's perfect for a meal before heading over to watch. Among Gwangalli rice restaurants, for a Korean place with this kind of mood, Solsot is definitely the one ^^

How does the Solsot abalone pot rice taste?

I ordered the abalone pot rice at Solsot Gwangalli. The moment you lift the lid, the nutty smell of rice rises up, and the abalone sits on top whole..! The abalone is chewy and its sea flavor has soaked into the rice, so each spoonful is nutty and deep 👍

The side dishes come out neatly too, and each one is seasoned just right, so eaten with the pot rice it's a truly warm, tidy spread.!! The chewy, generous abalone topping was a feast for the eyes too! haha At a Gwangalli rice restaurant, for careful Korean cooking like this, Solsot really is the one :)

The steak pot rice my husband picked

Solsot's steak pot rice comes with thick steak piled on top of the rice 😊 My husband ordered it, and even though he held back from adding extra toppings, he was full and happy ^^ haha greedy guy haha

Eating the rice and steak together, nutty rice meets juicy steak, a good mix of Korean and Western. My husband said, "This is really good," and didn't leave a single grain of rice haha

Is the yurinki side dish at Solsot worth ordering?

We ordered yurinki (crispy fried chicken with a tangy sauce) as a side at Solsot Gwangalli, and I really recommend it. Sweet-and-sour sauce is poured over crispy fried chicken, and one bite wakes up your whole mouth..!

The pot rice is mild, so alternating with the tangy yurinki means you never get tired of it before the end. At Solsot, a Gwangalli rice restaurant, definitely add the yurinki ^^

How to make nurungji from your pot rice

After finishing your Solsot pot rice, you can turn the rice stuck to the bottom into nurungji (scorched rice soup). Pour in water, close the lid and wait, and you get a toasty nurungji. This finish is honestly the best part :) One spoonful of warm, nutty nurungji settles your stomach so nicely haha

Who should go to Solsot Gwangalli?

Solsot Gwangalli is a Gwangalli rice restaurant where you can enjoy a warm, neat pot rice meal in a lovely setting. I'd want to bring family here, and it's great for a Gwangalli date too. I recommend it as a Korean restaurant in Gwangalli :) 🍚
