Hi everyone! On a Sunday weekend, I suddenly had a strong craving for savory, rich eel rice bowl, so I headed to Yeouido. Since it was my weekend dining out, I wanted a proper meal that wouldn't disappoint, and after some searching I landed on Jangeo-in's Yeouido branch. I made a reservation before going, and to cut to the chase — from the dining atmosphere to the food to the service, nothing was lacking. It was a fully satisfying time.

Inside Jangeo-in in Yeouido: a big fish tank and an open grilling station
Jangeo-in's Yeouido branch is in the underground arcade you reach by heading down from a building on Uisadang-daero. The moment I stepped through the entrance, I felt the place's distinct sense of quality. Fitting for the Yeouido area, the sleek, tidy interior was the first thing that caught my eye, and off to one side sat a huge tank with fresh, live eels swimming around.

Right next to it, I could see chefs carefully pre-grilling the eel in an open space. For guests, that's not only visually enjoyable but also builds real trust around the ingredients and hygiene.
Why Jangeo-in works for private dining in Yeouido: 7 private rooms
Thanks to my advance reservation, I was kindly guided to a private room by staff. Looking around the place, there were roughly 7 private rooms, sized to fit different party sizes. The VIP room in particular even had a clothing steamer for guests' convenience — I thought it would make a fine spot for a business lunch or an important family gathering.

Besides the rooms, there were about 4 hall tables, and each table there had curtains that could be drawn to block off the outside — a thoughtful touch that lets you enjoy a private, comfortable meal even in the hall.

Ordering the Sunday lunch special: eel set meal and eel rice bowl
Once seated, I checked the menu and found that even on a Sunday lunch, a solid lunch special was available. Wanting to try a variety, I ended up ordering both the eel set meal and the eel rice bowl.

With the eel set, you can choose a dessert after the meal — savory eel soup, or cold or warm buckwheat noodles. I went with the cold buckwheat noodles to cool off from the heat.

How the grilled eel tastes wrapped in perilla leaf with ginger
After a while, the main dish — grilled eel — arrived. The eel at Jangeo-in's Yeouido branch comes already fully pre-grilled in the kitchen, so there was no long wait at the grill; it was ready to eat right away. I picked up a nicely browned piece of eel, laid it on a salty pickled perilla leaf, piled on plenty of sharp ginger, and wrapped it up to eat. I've been really into ginger lately, and it cleanly cut through the eel's richness, which can get greasy — the pairing was excellent.
The eel rice bowl at Jangeo-in: plenty of vegetables, sauce on the side
The eel rice bowl that followed was also beyond my expectations. It came neatly plated alongside a warm, refreshing bean sprout soup, and that soup alone was clean and full of umami — excellent.

The eel rice bowl was generously loaded with fresh vegetables inside, giving it a great texture. Best of all, they gave plenty of special sauce on the side, so I liked being able to season it to my own taste. When I loaded a spoonful of rice, vegetables, and a thick chunk of eel and took a bite, the sweet-salty sauce and the eel's flavor filled my mouth.

Cold buckwheat noodles for dessert, with thicker noodles than expected
To finish the meal, the cold buckwheat noodles included in the set arrived. When I first saw the noodles, they seemed a bit thicker than I expected, but once I actually slurped a bite, the chewiness and springy texture blended well with the broth. It gave a clean finish that washed away any richness, putting a satisfying period at the end of the meal.

Final take: who Jangeo-in in Yeouido is best for
It had been a while since I'd had eel as a proper nourishing meal, and from the atmosphere to the food quality, it was an extremely satisfying weekend lunch. When I want to enjoy proper eel dishes in a tidy, private space, this is the first place that will come to mind. It's a hidden gem in Yeouido I'd love to revisit soon with my parents or with people who matter to me.
