Paju night café with marshmallows and chocolate bread: On the Rail

Isn't it really hard to find a café in Paju that stays open late? Sometimes I suddenly want a coffee at night, but when I search, most places have already closed and there's nowhere to go. So these days I have a spot I go to without even thinking: On the Rail (온더레일) in Munsan, Paju. I've already been several times and it's my favorite café, and the atmosphere at night is just amazing. haha

With its railway-track charm, twinkling lights and even a fire pit, I can really recommend it for dates and as a drive destination.

On the Rail location, hours and parking

On the Rail is at 25 Imjingak-ro, Munsan-eup, Paju-si, Gyeonggi-do, and it's open every day from 11:00 until 2:00 AM. Parking is available, so it's easy to get to by car.

Getting there by car

• Coming from the Munsan side: head toward Imjingang Station, and before you reach the concrete barrier, turn into the railway area on the left.
• Coming from the Imjingak side: drive about 900m from Imjingang Station toward downtown Munsan, then turn into the railway area on the right.
• You can also search 'On the Rail' (온더레일) or 'Majeon-ri 648' (마정리 648번지) in T map.

On the Rail, a Paju late-night café that's busy even at night

I came to On the Rail after dinner again this time, and there were way more people than I expected. Everyone seemed to be there for a late coffee, just like me.

Even this late, the café was lively, which put me in an even better mood. It seems to be a well-known late-night café in Paju already. When you want a drive plus a café late at night, nothing beats it. There's a reason it's my favorite...

Roasting marshmallows at the On the Rail outdoor fire pit

My favorite space at On the Rail is the outdoor area. There's a wood fire where you can zone out by the flames, and you can even roast your own marshmallows. I don't think this used to be here, so it must be new. Once it cools down a bit, I'll have to come back for the fire pit haha

What's the indoor atmosphere at On the Rail like?

I really like the indoor space at On the Rail too. The ceilings are high so it never feels stuffy, and the tables are spaced generously, which made it comfortable to relax.

Even with lots of people, it felt more relaxed than crowded.

Decaf coffee and chocolate bread, picked late at night

Because it was late, the bakery at On the Rail was mostly sold out. Still, some chocolate bread was left, so I picked one, and I ordered a decaf coffee haha

I don't sleep well after coffee at night, so I really liked that they have decaf.

The chocolate bread was moister than I expected and went well with the coffee.

Why a night café in Paju is hard to find

Paju has plenty of pretty cafés, but not as many that stay open late as you'd think. So whenever I suddenly want a café at night, I almost always end up at On the Rail.

After going once, twice, it's become my favorite late-night café haha

On the Rail's killer point: the outdoor railway tracks

The one place you can't miss at On the Rail is the outdoor area. There are real railway tracks with string lights set up prettily, so it's much more beautiful at night than during the day. It's great for photos too, and everyone there was taking their best-ever shots.

The outdoor area at On the Rail feels like every single light was thought through, so just walking around is healing. With the tracks and warm lights together, it felt like being on a trip haha
