Seooreung Chinese restaurant: thin-noodle tofu jjamppong, free rice

In short

Jjamppong Jijeon Seooreung Branch (짬뽕지존 서오릉점) is a Chinese restaurant specializing in jjamppong (spicy seafood noodle soup) on Seooreung-ro in Deogyang-gu, Goyang, Gyeonggi. On a drive to Ilsan with her husband and baby, the writer ordered tofu jjamppong noodles, Jijeon jjajang (black bean sauce noodles) and a small glutinous-rice tangsuyuk (sweet and sour pork), and received jjamppong dumplings on the house. The tofu jjamppong at Jjamppong Jijeon Seooreung Branch has thin, light noodles and a rich broth that is perfect for stirring in free rice from the self-serve bar.

Location and hours of Jjamppong Jijeon Seooreung Branch

Jjamppong Jijeon Seooreung Branch (짬뽕지존 서오릉점) is at 424 Seooreung-ro, floors 1 and 2, Deogyang-gu, Goyang, Gyeonggi. It's open every day from 07:00 to 22:00 (last order 21:30), and there's parking.

The restaurant describes itself as a "premium Chinese restaurant that makes its own flavor with 100% domestic chili powder," and says it offers free extra rice and even dessert at the self-bar.

The weather has been so nice lately that staying home felt like a waste, so for the first time the three of us, me, my husband and the baby, took a drive to Ilsan. We were heading for Baedagol Bakery, but while searching for good places near Seooreung, the name Jjamppong Jijeon 🔥 jumped out at me. It looked delicious, so we dashed over >.<

There's a private parking lot in front of the restaurant that fits about 30 cars. A good restaurant with a big lot is the best. We parked easily and walked right in.

Soldiers get 10% off when dining in, and takeout orders are 10% off too!!!

Spacious dining hall with set tables at Jjamppong Jijeon Seooreung Branch

This was my first time eating around Seooreung, and there were honestly so many popular restaurants nearby, even on a weekday. Jjamppong Jijeon Seooreung Branch was packed too, which surprised me haha. It's a fairly large restaurant, and every table was already set up.

What you can get free at the self-bar

At the self-bar you can help yourself to extra rice, a variety of side dishes, coffee and drinks, all for free.

You can get more rice at the self-bar and take as many side dishes as you like. There's coffee too, and I think older folks would love the Maxim coffee (Korean instant coffee mix) they like after a meal!

Jjamppong mandu received as a free service

What the three of us ordered: tofu jjamppong noodles, Jijeon jjajang, small tangsuyuk

We ordered the Jijeon jjajang, the tofu jjamppong noodles and a small glutinous-rice tangsuyuk. We got the jjamppong mandu (dumplings) as a free service, and since they're seasoned, they were tastier than regular mandu.

Table spread with jjamppong, jjajang and tangsuyuk

With jjamppong, jjajang and tangsuyuk like a set menu, the whole table filled up haha. The tangsuyuk came with sweet potato fries, and it was served half dip, half pour, sort of. Soy sauce and chili powder are set out on every table.

The tofu jjamppong noodles have thin noodles that go down easy

The tofu jjamppong noodles at Jjamppong Jijeon Seooreung Branch had thin noodles that soaked up the seasoning well, and I was really happy with them. I'd only had two eggs that morning, so I was a little hungry, and with such a hearty tofu jjamppong I inhaled it without even realizing haha ㅠ

Best of all, the noodles are thin, so the flour doesn't feel heavy, and the seasoning soaks in nicely. Thin noodles have a better texture than thick ones, so you just keep slurping!!

The Jijeon jjajang isn't too sweet

This is the Jijeon jjajang my husband had. He sprinkled in plenty of chili powder and mixed it well. I stole a bite, and it wasn't too sweet and was really good!

You can adjust the spice level in lots of ways, but he had the default, so it wasn't spicy at all. They don't have ganjjajang (dry-fried jjajang), so we got the regular jjajang, and it was fine.

Mixing self-bar rice into the tofu jjamppong broth

The tofu jjamppong at Jjamppong Jijeon Seooreung Branch was spicy and the broth was rich, just right for mixing rice into. It's the first tofu jjamppong I've had since the one I tried on a trip to Gangneung.

You can choose tofu jjamppong with rice or with noodles. I usually love rice, but this day I felt like having noodles, so I brought rice from the self-bar and mixed it into the broth haha.

The glutinous-rice tangsuyuk has a crispy coating, and because it's glutinous rice, it's really chewy.
