Beef BBQ in Ansan Gojan: butter-grilled short rib & pork skin, Yangmun

Today's pick is a barbecue place in Gojan-dong, Ansan that I love so much I've gone back with my family, my friends and my partner! It's delicious every single time, so I'm introducing it right away.

Yangmun Ansan Gojan hours and parking

Yangmun Ansan Gojan (남영동양문 안산고잔점) is open 15:00–24:00 on weekdays and 12:00–24:00 on weekends. Parking is covered for 2 hours at the central private parking lot, and for any extra time you can buy a parking ticket at 50% off!

Yangmun Ansan Gojan events and marinated short rib deals

The outdoor seats were full even late on a Sunday night

I went for a late Sunday dinner, so the crowd had thinned out a bit. Still, Gojan-dong is famous for its outdoor-seating restaurants, and maybe that's why the outdoor tables at Yangmun were all taken.

Free beef rib soup and cold noodles

Once you sit down and order at Yangmun Ansan Gojan, a generous spread of free side dishes arrives quickly. The special ones here, no question, are the free cold noodles and the beef rib soup.

A whole bowl of soup just comes out, and maybe because it's made from the meat trimmed off the short ribs, it's reeeally packed with ingredients, with plenty of rib meat inside. You feel full and happy from the very start 👍🏻 If it cools down while you're eating, tell the staff! They bring it back to a rolling boil.. honestly the best.

Raw short rib meat grilled with butter is twice as rich and nutty

The raw short rib meat is a must whenever I visit Yangmun! Sometimes I get a plate of bone-in ribs, sometimes this trimmed short rib meat, and either way it's delicious.

You all know meat grilled over charcoal is overwhelmingly good. The short ribs turn golden and cook fast.

One of this restaurant's signatures is that butter comes with the meat. Melt it on the well-grilled beef, grill it a little more, and then eat: twice the nutty richness!!

I also topped it with the pickled onions that came alongside,

and put it on the free cold noodles too, a magic combo where everything vanishes in no time.

If you get tired of short ribs or can't eat much because they're greasy, I think you'll change your mind after eating at Yangmun. You can eat them in lots of combinations, and when it starts to feel a little greasy, another spoonful of the soup and you're ready to start over.. ~

How was the charcoal pork skin, which I tried for the first time?

Ordering more meat felt like too much, but leaving like this felt like a shame, so I wondered what else to get, and the charcoal pork skin (gyeopdegi) jumped out at me. I always stuff myself with beef, so I'd never tried the pork skin at Yangmun, and this time I did.

OMG.. legendary delicious.

It's not the thin kind of pork skin but a thick, chewy one with the seasoning already soaked in, so it's amazing even without dipping it in roasted soybean powder (of course they give you the powder too). I cleaned the plate right to the very end.

Finish with a cola and the meal is complete. They even bring a cup of ice, which is a thoughtful touch. Little touches like this are what made it my favorite barbecue place, I think..

Chadol yukhoe ssam, what I order 8 times out of 10

This time my partner wasn't feeling the chadol yukhoe ssam (wraps of thin-sliced brisket and beef tartare), so we skipped it, but I order it 8 out of 10 visits, so I'm attaching a photo from an earlier visit, sob.

The chadol yukhoe ssam is really delicious too. It looks unreal, and it's the very combo my friends said looked so tasty the moment they saw it.

Need I say more.. it's insanely good. Everyone I've taken there had their eyes go wide right after the first bite, the best combination.

I got so hooked that I bought brisket and beef tartare to make it at home, but it didn't taste like the charcoal-boosted version at Yangmun, haha ㅠㅠ Definitely!!! try it, highly recommended.

Dessert ice cream and why I'm a regular

Yangmun Ansan Gojan even has a whole spread of quality ice cream for dessert.

Whenever I want short ribs or chadol yukhoe ssam, Yangmun Ansan Gojan is my go-to favorite. The staff are so friendly every time.. you can even collect points.. it's already a great-value beef place and they send coupons regularly.. I can't not go ㅠㅠ
