Konkuk Univ. terrace bakery café for an 8.8-rated croissant: Stack
In short
Stack Bakery Konkuk University Station Main Branch is an authentic French-style bakery café on Ttukseom-ro 31-gil in Jayang-dong, Gwangjin, Seoul. Stack Bakery reportedly ranked first with 8.8 points in a French baker influencer's rating of Seoul croissants, and the writer spent the time before an appointment on the 2nd floor and outdoor terrace with the ₩8,000 croissant and Americano set, a pastry loaf, a tomato cheese pastry, a crookie and an apple mango ade. The croissant alone makes Stack Bakery a Konkuk Univ. bakery worth returning to.

What kind of bakery is Stack Bakery Konkuk University Station Main Branch?
Stack Bakery is a classic French-style bakery café selling freshly baked French pastries like croissants, pastries and kouign-amann. I stopped by while walking around Konkuk Univ., on the way to Ttukseom Hangang Park, to try a Seoul croissant spot that even French people reportedly fell for.
It's also a café where you can enjoy a cup of coffee, and the bread is great value too, so if you love croissants, this pastry bakery is a must-visit.
How to get to Stack Bakery from Konkuk Univ. Station
Stack Bakery is about a 5-minute walk from Exit 5 of Konkuk Univ. Station. Head straight toward Jayang Station and Ttukseom Hangang Park, and you'll find it in the back alley of Jayang Daedong Apartments, feeling quiet and calm.

The bakery shares a small building across the 1st and 2nd floors and has an outdoor terrace too. On a nice day it's great for a date over croissants, or a stop during a walk with your dog.

Why is Stack Bakery's croissant so famous?
Stack Bakery's croissant took first place with a top score of 8.8 in a French baker influencer's Seoul croissant ratings. For a while, videos of that influencer traveling around Seoul rating the best croissants kept showing up on my social media like clockwork. Stack Bakery drew praise even beating out bakeries run by French people themselves.

What breads and pastries does Stack Bakery sell?
The 1st floor displays about 20 kinds of bread, including croissants, pastry loaf, kouign-amann, pastries, cruffins, pain suisse and salt bread. As soon as you open the door you see all kinds of pastries and the sweet smell of butter fills the air, so I don't think you can leave empty-handed.
The signature croissants were stacked high and the other breads looked so tempting that I was dizzy trying to choose.

From the croissant to the pastry loaf, tomato cheese pastry and cruffin, I picked one of each kind I wanted to eat, as best I could.
When to go to Stack Bakery for the best croissant selection
Stack Bakery opens at 8 a.m., and I heard the bread selection is fullest around 11. They make the dough from scratch every dawn and keep baking, so you get warm, sweet bread, and in a corner of the workshop they were still making dough and baking even in the afternoon.
That's probably why you can get a warm, butter-scented croissant fresh from the oven early in the morning. The crisp yet soft texture that follows the thin layers of the pastry seemed to come from good ingredients and steady production.

Stack Bakery coffee, drinks and set discounts
The drinks include smooth, nutty coffee made with beans blended by a roaster with 15 years of experience, plus tea and ade. The drinks are also designed to pair well with the pastries.
You can get a croissant and drink as a set at a lower price, and takeout drinks get ₩1,000 off.

What is the 2nd-floor seating at Stack Bakery like?
The 1st floor is mainly where bread is baked and bought, while the 2nd floor is a spacious café-style seating area. While my drink was being made I looked around upstairs: tables are set along the many windows so you can relax in bright sunlight, and they even have blankets and chairs for your bag.

What I ordered at Stack Bakery and the prices
- Stack croissant + Americano ₩8,000
- Apple mango ade ₩5,500
- Pastry loaf ₩7,000
- Tomato cheese pastry ₩4,500
- Cruffin ₩6,500

Waiting for an appointment on Stack Bakery's outdoor terrace
The outdoor terrace sits on a quiet alley, so it was a nice place to rest on a sunny day. The sun was dazzling and the weather so good that I sat down planning to spend a little time there before heading to my appointment, but the street was quiet and it felt so relaxing and warm that I didn't want to get up.

After one croissant and a short coffee break, I packed up the remaining bread and moved on to my next plan, and I really wished I'd had a bit more time to spare.

Is Stack Bakery near Konkuk Univ. Station worth a return visit?
It's true there are plenty of cafés and places to go around Konkuk Univ., but I doubt there's anywhere else where you can enjoy such a relaxed atmosphere and delicious bread too. Stack Bakery, a bakery café perfect for picking up bread and resting a while before Ttukseom Hangang Park, is a place I'd go back to for the croissant's taste alone.
