In short

Seosan Jonghap Eosijang (서산종합어시장) is a newly opened, large live-fish sashimi restaurant on Nambu Sunhwan-ro in Seosan, Chungnam. On a weekday visit around 5 pm with a child, the writer ate striped beakfish (rarely found in Seosan) for 49,000 won, kids' roe rice for 9,000 won and fried king prawns for 10,000 won, and was also happy with the self-serve bar's tteokbokki and fish cutlets. What is Seosan Jonghap Eosijang like?

Seosan Jonghap Eosijang (서산종합어시장) is a big, newly opened raw fish restaurant right on a main road at 1007 Nambu Sunhwan-ro, Seosan, Chungnam. It's open daily from 11:30 until 3 am, and there's a parking lot behind the building. The weather has turned quite chilly, but a few months ago I passed by and saw this huge sashimi place pop up, so I'd been looking forward to it. It already had good reviews, so I finally went!

You can tell how big it is just from the photo, right? I always wondered why Seosan had nothing like this, and then it appeared, so my expectations were sky-high. It's already famous as a go-to for live fish sashimi in Seosan, and even early in the day it was bustling with people.

Is parking easy at Seosan Jonghap Eosijang?

There's a big private parking lot behind the building, so you don't need to worry about parking 🙂 It's right on a main road, too.

I went on a weekday around 5 pm, and it really is the hot place in Seosan, because it was packed with people. Even with so many customers, the inside was big and clean, and I liked the floor-to-ceiling windows that keep it from feeling stuffy.

What's on the menu at Seosan Jonghap Eosijang?

The menu has sashimi of flatfish (gwangeo), rockfish (ureok), mullet (sungeo), salmon, red sea bream, small flounder (dodari) and sea bass, plus assorted platters and combos of two or three fish. There are also sides like seafood fritters, mulhoe (cold raw fish soup) and kalguksu (knife-cut noodle soup), so it's a really varied menu 🙂 If you're bad at making decisions, this will be tough, haha~!!

You order at a kiosk. There were lots of sashimi options, and for kids there were things like grilled mackerel, roe rice and fried shrimp, so it seemed like you could come with children and still enjoy it fully!

What's at the self-serve bar?

The self-serve bar had pickled scallions (rakkyo), pickled ginger, corn, kimchi, lettuce and other wraps, and seaweed soup, plus tteokbokki (spicy rice cakes) and fish cutlets. Surprisingly, the tteokbokki and fish cutlets were so good. It was great being able to just grab what I wanted, and the self-serve bar felt perfect to me.

Each table is set with small plates, soup bowls, cups, soy sauce for sashimi and chogochujang (sweet chili vinegar sauce)!

Good for kids: roe rice for ₩9,000

The roe rice (albap) at Seosan Jonghap Eosijang is ₩9,000, and I ordered it for my child. It comes topped with kimchi, so I mixed one portion without kimchi for my kid and the grown-ups mixed theirs with kimchi. It has pickled radish, seaweed, flying fish roe and cabbage, and my child ate it well and it tasted good to adults too.

Where can you eat striped beakfish sashimi in Seosan?

Seosan Jonghap Eosijang sells striped beakfish (juldom) for ₩49,000. I'd checked Dongbu Market and Hanaro Mart in Seosan and only a few places sold it, so when I saw it here I ordered right away! They slice it to order, so it's fresh and also comes out neatly, which I liked. The striped beakfish was really delicious, so I recommend it!

Self-serve sushi and seaweed soup

I ordered the self-serve sushi rice here and enjoyed the striped beakfish as sushi too, like this. If you like sushi, I'd definitely recommend ordering the vinegared rice and making your own..♥ And the seaweed soup here has such a deep flavor, so good ☺️

Side dish pick: fried king prawns for ₩10,000

The fried king prawns at Seosan Jonghap Eosijang come as five pieces for ₩10,000.

Can you see how plump these king prawns are?? They're chubby, as king prawn fry should be. Dipped in the sauce they give you, they were so good 🙂 It's only five, but eating them I got surprisingly full. I recommend it as a side!

Is Seosan Jonghap Eosijang worth going back to?

Sushi rice, two slices of sashimi, wasabi and ssamjang (seasoned soybean paste), what a delicious-looking bite!! It was the best sashimi I've had recently!!! Even though this Seosan sashimi restaurant is new and was very crowded, the atmosphere was good and not chaotic at all, which I loved : )

I usually avoid sashimi places with kids because there's nothing for them to eat, but Seosan Jonghap Eosijang has roe rice, grilled mackerel, fish cutlets and more for kids, so I'd happily go back. It feels like a sashimi place that delivers both taste and value, so personally I was really satisfied with this meal. Looking for a Seosan sashimi restaurant that's tasty and priced kindly? I recommend Seosan Jonghap Eosijang.
