MR (엠아르) is a dog-friendly brunch café on Bukhangang-ro in Hwado-eup, Namyangju, Gyeonggi. On a weekend visit with our dog, we parked easily in MR's spacious lot, explored the two-building layout and the Bukhan River-view garden, then ate the Mountain Burger and spicy carbonara. For river views, easy parking and brunch in one stop, MR in Namyangju was a satisfying choice.
Mat Chandeul Wang Sogeum Gui Moran Branch is an aged pork grill house on Dunchon-daero near Moran Station in Seongnam, Gyeonggi. On a rainy Liberation Day holiday, the writer ate out instead of cooking and ordered the A Set with samgyeopsal (pork belly), served with two salts, Himalayan and Andes, plus meljeot (fermented anchovy sauce) and grilled baek-kimchi (white kimchi). Staff grill the meat over charcoal at the table, and cauldron rice and a doenjang stew with beef brisket round out a filling family meal.
Narae Susan is a sashimi shop on the 1st floor of the sales building at Garak Mall in Songpa, Seoul. On a day too hot to eat out, a 70,000-won premium live sashimi platter was picked up for takeout with seven kinds of fish — salmon, red seabream, striped jack, sea bass, flounder, salmon belly and hibiki — plus vinegar-gochujang sauce, wasabi, soy sauce and a free portion of abalone sashimi. Narae Susan packed everything in a cooler bag, so the platter arrived home as fresh as it left the market.
