Weekday evening atmosphere

It was early on a weekday evening, so there were plenty of open seats, but as soon as we sat down, customers kept coming in. By around 6-7 p.m. the tables were completely full. A good restaurant is a good restaurant, I guess, haha.

How hot is spice level 1?

Two adults came, and we ordered the Set A Daehwanjang Monkfish Set (monkfish jjim + boneless monkfish soup + squid sukhoe + steamed egg) at spice level 1. I love spicy food, but I figured I wouldn't enjoy it if it were hotter than Shin Ramyun, so I picked level 1.

Side dishes and the self-serve bar

Not long after we ordered, the side dishes arrived. They bring the side dishes out the first time, and after that you can help yourself at the self-serve bar.

At Badaga Nae Sonagwi, if you order a set menu, the steamed egg and squid sukhoe (blanched squid) come too. I was just amazed at how generous the portions were.

How does the boneless monkfish soup taste?

The boneless monkfish soup included in the set came out pretty quickly. It looked delicious from the very first glance. Just looking at it, the broth seemed cool and refreshing yet spicy and rich.

Boneless monkfish soup with spicy broth

Because it's boneless, it was so easy to eat. There was no need to pick out bones separately, so I could dig in heartily, which I loved. There was a lot of boneless monkfish in it too. Once again I was surprised by the price and by the generous portion.

While we were enjoying the spicy, refreshing boneless monkfish soup, the monkfish jjim came out right after.

₩39,000 monkfish jjim: portion and quality

With the monkfish jjim, every dish had arrived, so I took one shot of everything. Wow... all this for ₩39,000?! In this age of high prices!!!

Full table spread of the Daehwanjang Monkfish Set

Is it just a lot of dishes with poor quality? Nope!!! Look at the size of the monkfish in the jjim!! It's really meaty!! There were about four big pieces like this. The monkfish flesh was nice and chewy and delicious too.

Large chunks of monkfish in the jjim

Spice level 1 was just right. It was about as hot as Shin Ramyun, a perfect level for finishing the whole thing happily.

Eat it with the bean sprouts like this and you can inhale it endlessly. There were plenty of bean sprouts too. The portion was so big that the two of us were full even without ordering any rice.

Soju payback event and dessert

Badaga Nae Sonagwi has a little event too, haha: a cash payback on soju! When you order soju, ₩1,000 is tied to the bottle. It's small, but a nice little perk.

And finally, Badaga Nae Sonagwi even takes care of dessert.
