Paju Chinese restaurant at 3pm: no-starch stone jjajang, Dolpanseok

In short

Dolpanseok Jjamppong Paju Simhaksan Branch is a Chinese restaurant on Dolgotji-gil in Paju, Gyeonggi, directly across from Lotte Premium Outlets. On a weekday visit at 3pm the order was the mild stone jjajang (black bean noodles) with a tungbosha (fried shrimp toast) 4pc set for 41,000 won plus whole squid for 5,000 won, and because the sauce is made without starch it tasted clean instead of thick, while the rice under the hot stone plate turned into nutty nurungji (scorched rice). Dolpanseok Jjamppong is a solid pick when a hearty Chinese meal is in order after a day of outlet shopping.

Wandering around the Paju outlets after a while, I suddenly craved high-calorie Chinese food. And I found this stone jjajang spot, conveniently nearby!

Where is Dolpanseok Jjamppong Paju Simhaksan Branch? Across from Lotte Premium Outlets

Dolpanseok Jjamppong Paju Simhaksan Branch sits right across from Lotte Premium Outlets — a Paju Simhaksan restaurant that's 2 minutes by car or 11 minutes on foot. This area seems to be a whole food strip, with restaurants clustered together 🙂

It's also close to other Paju spots worth visiting — by Naver Map driving distance, Paju Book City is 5 minutes, Heyri Art Village 14 minutes, and Shinsegae Premium Outlets 11 minutes.

Inside Dolpanseok Jjamppong: partitioned booths, highchairs and a baby-food microwave

Walk in and the kitchen is on the right, the dining hall on the left. It's quite spacious. There's a long table in the middle, and both sides are reasonably divided into booths with tall partitions. Everyone was eating inside those partitions 😄 It seems great for work dinners, groups, or family meals. Highchairs and a microwave for baby food are also available.

Dolpanseok Jjamppong menu and prices

The signature dishes are nurungji stone-plate jjamppong (spicy seafood noodle soup, medium ₩29,000 / large ₩40,000), nurungji stone-plate jjajang (medium ₩28,000 / large ₩39,000), and samgye seafood nurungji tang (₩43,000). Whole squid can be added to any of them (₩5,000), and both jjajang and jjamppong let you choose a spice level.

If you like spicy jjajang, they say the chili pesto stone jjajang (₩29,000), topped with a house-made cheongyang chili pesto, is also delicious. There's also the handmade tungbosha with plump shrimp (4pc ₩15,000) and the pork soup & chicken soup set with handmade pork cutlet and fried chicken (₩15,000).

There's also homemade fruit ade (₩5,000), soft drinks, and alcohol. Besides the usual cola and cider, I was glad to see Fanta and zero cola on the list. Ultra-high-calorie meal plus a soda, but hey, at least it's zero 😌

What does the no-starch mild stone jjajang taste like?

The stone jjajang came out first, followed shortly by the tungbosha. Because it's served on a hot stone plate, the jjajang sauce was still bubbling gently from the residual heat.

They say the sauce isn't premade — it's cooked to order, and no starch is added! That no-starch part seems like a real advantage. Regular jjajangmyeon sauce is usually thick, but here it's clean and light. It definitely seemed to cause less of a blood sugar spike! It comes out well-stir-fried, and since it keeps cooking on the stone plate, the sauce still soaked nicely into the noodles even without being thick.

My mom cheerfully held it up for a good photo 😄 There's a pair of scissors at every table for cutting the noodles. Inside: vegetables, plump shrimp and squid, other seafood, quail eggs, and the whole squid we added. That squid was cooked just right — very soft and delicious. The jjajang was a bit salty on its own, but eating it with the squid balanced it out perfectly!

Handmade tungbosha 4pc: crisp outside, plump shrimp inside

The tungbosha (fried shrimp toast) was delicious 😃 It was large, and the shrimp meat was literally plump, which I loved! Totally crispy outside, juicy inside. The bread part was super, super crunchy too 🙌🏻 Delicious whether dipped in chili sauce or not — I ate every bite.

The nurungji left under the stone plate, plus the dessert corner

The portion was huge 🫢 Once you finish the noodles, there's rice underneath, which turns into nutty nurungji (scorched rice) on the stone plate. There was plenty of sauce left too. After you finish eating, they even bring out dessert — yogurt, rice crackers, and coffee are available self-serve!

Verdict on a 3pm weekday visit to Dolpanseok Jjamppong

Even around 3pm on a weekday, diners kept steadily coming in. And the staff here were really kind. I was craving jjajangmyeon just then, and eating it off a stone plate made it even better — a clean, satisfying Chinese restaurant. A great spot for jjajangmyeon and jjamppong in Paju. Ate well, ate happily. The end 🙂🦑
