Paju Chinese restaurant after the Yakcheonsa trail: soju and jjamppong

In short

Dolpanseok Jjamppong Paju Simhaksan Branch is a Chinese restaurant in Paju, Gyeonggi, at the end of the Simhaksan trail loop by Yakcheonsa Temple. A couple ordered the nurungji stone-plate jjamppong with handmade tungbosha and chitang (sweet fried chicken), drank a glass of soju while the stone plate kept the broth hot to the last spoonful, then finished the bowl with scorched rice and a scoop of rice. Unlimited free rice, a self-serve green onion kimchi bar and highchairs make Dolpanseok Jjamppong an easy family meal too.

What are the signature menu items?

The signboard out front at Dolpanseok Jjamppong Paju Simhaksan Branch lists three signature dishes: whole squid stone jjamppong, red pepper pesto stone jajang, and the limited-time samgye seafood nurungji tang.

  • Whole squid stone jjamppong — fresh seafood and a whole squid on top, loaded with crunchy bean sprouts, for a refreshing, clean-tasting broth in this signature stone jjamppong.
  • Red pepper pesto stone jajang — cheongyang chili pesto gives this stone jajang a clean spicy kick alongside its hearty ingredients.
  • Samgye seafood nurungji tang (limited-time) — a rich chicken-ginseng broth with domestic samgye chicken, ginseng, jujube, fresh seafood, and crispy nurungji (scorched rice), a summer restorative dish.

Inside Dolpanseok Jjamppong: atmosphere and seating

Table seating with bulb lighting in the restaurant

Walking inside, the high ceilings and soft bulb lighting felt more like a stylish café or pasta place than a Chinese restaurant. Tables were comfortably spaced, and there were plenty of highchairs set up, so it seemed perfect for a family gathering with kids too.

How do you order?

Table-order payment screen and menu

It's a table-order & payment system. If you're unsure about anything while ordering, the staff are super kind about explaining.

There's a thoughtful reminder that portions can be big, so order sensibly — and they've even written it on the wall. Of course you should still be reasonable, but a medium serving for 4 people is fine too~ you know that experience of ordering while worrying about being judged even when you're full, and leaving food behind? Don't hold back, order as much as you want. Though in our case, the problem was we over-ordered haha.

The rice is unlimited and free, steaming right out of the rice cooker~ it's even freshly cooked.

There's a self-serve corner so you can refill side dishes freely.

Nurungji stone-plate jjamppong: broth that stays hot to the last spoonful

Our nurungji stone-plate jjamppong finally arrived!🔥 The stone-plate jjamppong was loaded with seafood, and the bean sprouts were overflowing. You can also order extra bean sprouts separately.

Steam kept rising off the hot stone plate, and what really got me was the mountain of crunchy bean sprouts piled on top — the visuals alone were impressive. The spicy, refreshing broth went perfectly with the noodles. And thanks to the heat retained by the stone plate, the broth stayed warm and never cooled down until we finished eating — amazing!

After we finished the noodles, we ate the nurungji, then stirred rice into the broth and cleaned it all up neatly. In the end, we couldn't resist that deep broth flavor and tilted back a glass of soju.

Handmade tungbosha and chitang (sweet fried chicken) on the side

My husband wanted to try a few more things, so we also ordered handmade tungbosha and chitang (fried chicken). The tungbosha's crispy toast shell with sweet shrimp inside was excellent. They packed up the leftover fried chicken for us, and even cold at home, the kids gave it a thumbs up!

One bite of jjamppong and ordering soju right after — I have to admit, it's a flavor you just can't resist.

A bite of well-seasoned jjamppong noodles

It was about Shin Ramyun spicy level, deliciously hot, and the noodles were so well seasoned we scraped the stone plate clean like we were afraid we'd wear a hole through it.

What's at the self-serve dessert corner?

Small but satisfying — the dessert self-serve corner had sweet, cool yogurt, savory crispy rice crackers, and the essential after-meal coffee.

Most dessert corners are just for adults, but kids would probably love this one too. There are plenty of highchairs available as well.

We wanted to order both jjamppong and jajang, but figured 4 servings would be too much to finish... it would be great if they had a half-and-half menu option.

Sign explaining the Naver review perk

They also offer a handmade fruit-syrup ade for writing a Naver review, and a drink coupon for turning on notifications.
