Sangnok Hoegwan Taejeon Branch: meat and seafood on one grill
I had a family dinner at Sangnok Hoegwan Taejeon Branch, a well-known spot in Taejeon-dong, Gwangju. It's famous for charcoal-grilled meat and seafood together, and I loved that you can order in 100g units, so everyone gets to pick what they actually want.
I want meat! I want seafood! Solved in one visit right here!
Address: 350-6 Hoean-daero, Gwangju-si, Gyeonggi-do, South Korea, 1st floor

Hours are 13:00–24:00. Same hours every day, no break time, so it's a restaurant you can just drop into whenever.
Parking is available right in front of the restaurant. Having that sorted was great.
What a 300g first order costs: under 30,000 won

This is how I did my first order. You can order meat in 100g units so you get to try a bunch of different cuts (though your first order has to be 300g).
I figured I'd start with this and add more later. Ordered like this and it came to under ₩30,000, lol. Feels like a great way to control portions whether you eat a little or a lot.

The mushrooms on the plate definitely made it look good too.

Just looking at these thick-cut slices got me excited.

Meat's gotta have that smoky char, right?! (This is meat being grilled beautifully over charcoal)

Pork neck and pork belly, 100g each, with radish salad wraps
The second the meat hit the grill, that charcoal smoke smell hit my nose, and watching it sizzle away… guess the diet gets postponed again today, ugh.
Salt first, always. Tried the pork neck first — nice chewy texture, very satisfying.

Second, the wrap — a combo that never lets you down. That radish salad especially is the real MVP.

For the second round I wanted to try pork belly, so I ordered another 100g. Being able to pick things in small amounts like this is great...!!

With perilla leaves it's double the flavor, and of course the radish salad is a must. (You've really got to try it this way~)
Is 100g of pork makchang enough? More than expected
100g of pork makchang (grilled pork intestine) was more than I expected!!

Makchang sizzling over charcoal — a visual you can't skip.

Once the outside is grilled enough, they cut it up for you. Dip it in the salt-and-oil sauce and — oh man.
Hollorong octopus and sea squirt grilled over briquettes

I ordered the hollorong octopus too. (It looked tempting in the photo, but the real thing was even more tempting.) Being able to eat charcoal-grilled seafood alongside the meat — love it, love it.

Grill it until firm, then dip it in chogochujang (vinegared chili paste).
Doenjang jjigae and naengmyeon to finish the meal
We also ordered doenjang jjigae.

Loaded with ingredients, everything you'd want in there!! Tasty too. (Has that refreshing quality as well~)

We ordered naengmyeon too. There's pickled cucumber in it. It added a tangy, savory extra kick, felt like.

The noodles were cooked just right too~
Self-bar side dishes and the free slushie machine

The basic side dishes.

Neatly arranged self-bar side dishes. Whatever side dish you want, or whatever ran out, it's all there at the self-bar — just go grab it~

There's a slushie machine kids will absolutely love. It's free for anyone eating at Sangnok Hoegwan. (Personally, the orange Fanta flavor was my favorite.)

Sangnok Hoegwan Taejeon Branch in Taejeon-dong, Gwangju, was great because you can enjoy seafood and meat together, your own way. It's famous for charcoal grilling, so pretty much anything you order tastes good.

There's sea squirt too. You don't have to give up one thing for the other — that's the real charm of Sangnok Hoegwan.
Seating and ventilation: room for a group dinner

The seating is pretty spacious too. Sangnok Hoegwan Taejeon Branch feels like a solid spot for a group dinner~

Ventilation is no problem at all!!
Sangnok Hoegwan, a meat restaurant in Taejeon-dong, Gwangju — I love that you can eat in small portions, and that seafood is on the table too, so I'd definitely go back.
