Spicy octopus stir-fry near Suwon Station and mandu kalguksu: Daseon

Daseon Kalguksu Main Branch (다선칼국수 본점) is a Korean restaurant specializing in kalguksu (knife-cut noodle soup) and stir-fried octopus, on Hyanggyo-ro in Paldal-gu right in front of Suwon Station. Visiting around 11:30 AM, the writer ordered spicy octopus stir-fry for two (33,000 won) and mandu kalguksu (11,000 won); the octopus was pleasantly spicy, about Shin Ramyun level, and even a writer who usually dislikes kalguksu fell for the dumplings. Daseon Kalguksu Main Branch suits Korean food lovers who want spicy octopus, barley rice and clam-broth kalguksu in one meal near Suwon Station.

Seoul Station gyukatsu, no wait at 6pm: sirloin + steki, Ichigyu

Ichigyu Seoul Station Branch (이치규 서울역점) is a Japanese restaurant specializing in gyukatsu (breaded beef cutlet) and steki, located in a basement near Exit 10 of Seoul Station in Jung-gu, Seoul. Arriving with a friend right after leaving work at 6pm, the writer got a table with no wait. Because tenderloin was unavailable, they ordered one sirloin gyukatsu and one sirloin steki (19,000 won each) and took turns grilling them on an iron plate with melted butter, and every seat was taken before 6:30pm. For an after-work gyukatsu dinner at Ichigyu near Seoul Station, arrive before 6:30pm and order one gyukatsu and one steki to share.
