4th-visit Sunday dinner of spicy rib soup in Seomyeon: Gang Galbitang
In short
Gang Galbitang Seomyeon is a galbitang (beef rib soup) restaurant on Saessak-ro in Seomyeon, Busan. On a fourth visit, around 6 p.m. on a Sunday, the writer had the Spicy Gang Galbitang (₩15,000) at spice level 3 with Jeju medium-thick noodles added, while a companion had the original Gang Galbitang (₩14,000). The big ribs and the self-bar's dried radish and pickled mustard greens led to two bowls of rice. Gang Galbitang Seomyeon is an easy recommendation for a solo meal or a hearty bowl of gukbap (soup with rice) in Seomyeon.

A fourth visit to a Seomyeon spot for solo dining and gukbap
Whenever I'm looking for somewhere to eat alone in Seomyeon, or I just want a hearty meal, one place pops into my head: Gang Galbitang Seomyeon, my go-to solo-dining spot in Busan. Honestly, I was so happy with my first visit that I've kept coming back for regular refills. 😂 This was my fourth visit already!
I went around 6 p.m. on a Sunday and it was pretty busy. Strangely, though, turnover was fast, so there was no wait and I got a seat. Customers kept coming in while we ate, though.
Seriously, though... calling Gang Galbitang Seomyeon a great gukbap (rice soup) place in Seomyeon is not even an exaggeration.
Is Gang Galbitang Seomyeon comfortable for eating alone?

The restaurant feels clean overall. Lots of people eat alone and lots of friends come together, so nobody gives you funny looks. That's why I especially recommend it to anyone looking for a solo-dining spot in Seomyeon, Busan. I also spotted a few customers drinking solo with a plate of suyuk (boiled beef).
Gang Galbitang Seomyeon menu

As a galbitang specialist, Gang Galbitang Seomyeon has a nicely varied menu.
- Gang Galbitang (beef rib soup)
- Spicy Gang Galbitang
- Galbi gukbap (rib soup with rice)
- Galbi noodles
- Aroni-satae suyuk (boiled beef shank)
- Jeju noodle add-on
For anyone hunting for a suyuk place in Seomyeon, it looked like the aroni-satae suyuk is ordered a lot too.
Spicy Gang Galbitang at level 3: how did it taste?
This time the prices were ₩14,000 for the Gang Galbitang and ₩15,000 for the spicy Gang Galbitang.

I ordered the spicy Gang Galbitang! I picked spice level 3 and added Jeju noodles too.

The soup arrived and the look of it was no joke. A deep, rich red broth, and it's not just spicy-looking: it's the kind that's genuinely spicy and delicious! It isn't only heat, the deep rib broth flavor comes through with it, so I kept spooning it up.
Every time I eat here I notice how much meat there is. The ribs are big, with plenty of meat on them, which makes it fun to eat. The meat itself is tender and clean, with no gamey smell.

Is the Jeju noodle add-on worth it?
The Jeju noodle add-on at Gang Galbitang Seomyeon is a real recommendation. The noodles are bouncy and chewy, and they go so well with the broth. Slurp slurp, and suddenly the whole bowl of noodles is gone. There are also more glass noodles than I expected, so noodle lovers can't help but be happy.

The original Gang Galbitang my companion ordered
My companion ordered the original Gang Galbitang. If the spicy version is the stimulating, charming one, the regular version has a rich, nutty broth. It's clean and refreshing, so I'd recommend it to anyone who wants the true taste of galbitang.
I love spicy food so I'm team spicy, but the regular Gang Galbitang is really good too. In the end I ate two bowls of rice. So stuffed 🤣
Side dishes and the self-serve bar at Gang Galbitang Seomyeon

Honestly, the real hidden strength of Gang Galbitang Seomyeon is the side dishes. Here's what's offered.
- Dried radish
- Kkakdugi (cubed radish kimchi)
- Pickled mustard greens
- Chogeokjang (pickled sauce)
- Chili peppers
- Garlic
- Doenjang (soybean paste)
- Meat sauce

The dried radish and pickled mustard greens are the real treats. Take a bite between spoonfuls of galbitang and your appetite perks right up. You can refill any side dish at the self-bar! Note that the dried radish and pickled mustard greens are only at the self-bar, so be sure to grab some.

I even took a photo next to my fist for comparison. Do you get a sense of how big the portion is? 😂

Gang Galbitang is also sold as a meal kit, so it's great for eating at home.
Verdict: is Gang Galbitang Seomyeon worth going back to?
I'm so happy with Gang Galbitang Seomyeon that this was already my fourth visit. It's the place I think of when I need a hearty meal, want to eat comfortably alone, need a hangover cure, or feel like a drink with suyuk. I especially recommend it if you're looking for a solo-dining spot, a gukbap place, or a lunch spot in Seomyeon, Busan!
Honestly... if you haven't eaten here, you shouldn't say you've had galbitang. 😆
That's how confidently I can recommend this truly great restaurant. Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 5/5. As for returning, I've already been 4 times and plan to keep going.
