It's a great spot for a late meal, and plenty of people come by for haejangsul (drinks to cure a hangover) too. Let me tell you about my latest visit to this Sinchon sundae-guk (blood sausage soup) favorite, Pyeongando Sikdang.

This Sinchon sundae-guk favorite sits halfway between Sinchon Station and Yonsei University.

It's rare these days to find a 24-hour restaurant. With no break time, it's open around the clock, every day of the year.

The inside is compact but fits around 10 tables. The layout works for solo diners as well as groups.

Menu and prices at Pyeongando Sikdang
Let's take a look at the menu board at this Sinchon Station hangover-soup favorite — it's posted on the wall.

There's a wide variety of gukbap for a meal, plus jeongol (hot pot) and stir-fried dishes. The set meal with sundae and pyeonyuk is especially popular.
What I ordered this time
Since this was a breakfast-slash-lunch visit, I mostly stuck to soups. With so many gukbap options, it's fun to pick something different every time I come.
- ▶ Sundae-guk: 11,000 won
- ▶ Ppyeo-haejang-guk: 11,000 won
- ▶ Half-plate sundae: 11,000 won
- ▶ Beer: 5,000 won
So how was the Sinchon sundae-guk?
I went outside peak hours, so the food came out fast.

Basic side dishes
The basic side dishes were baechu kimchi (napa cabbage kimchi), kkakdugi (radish kimchi), raw onion, and peppers, all served neatly. The fresh chives go really well when piled generously into the hot sundae-guk.

Half-plate sundae
The half-plate sundae came out neatly arranged, filling the plate. It looked so appetizing I wanted to try a piece right away.

I picked up a piece, dipped it lightly in seasoned salt, and took a bite. It was packed full and had a savory flavor — great as a simple side to nibble on.

Sundae-guk
The sundae-guk arrives bubbling hot in a ttukbaegi (stone pot), and the broth runs fairly rich. You can choose sundae only, meat only, or a mix, depending on your preference.

Adding a generous handful of chives brought out even more chive aroma in the broth. The meat and sundae portions were generous too, so mixing in a bowl of rice made for a very filling meal.

Ppyeo-haejang-guk
Ppyeo-haejang-guk (spicy pork bone soup) stands out for its spicy, hot broth. The chunky bones came with plenty of meat attached, so there was a lot to eat.

The ugeoji (dried radish greens) were also well simmered and generously portioned, giving a soft texture. Eating the greens and meat together in the spicy broth would make great haejang food.

Beer
I paired the hot soup and chewy sundae with a cold beer. The refreshing fizz cleaned my palate nicely after the soup.
