Weekend night Gwanghwamun café for Icebreaker americano: Center Coffee

In short

Center Coffee Gwanghwamun is a Blue Ribbon Survey-listed specialty coffee shop on the basement level of SFC Mall in Jung-gu, Seoul. On a late weekend evening, this visit covered an americano brewed with the signature Icebreaker blend (5,400 won), an oat latte (6,500 won), a Greek yogurt bowl (6,800 won) and a Matilda chocolat cake (8,200 won). The coffee's balance of acidity and smoothness with the barely sweet chocolate cake made the combination worth repeating.

I stopped by Center Coffee Gwanghwamun, a Gwanghwamun café that made the Blue Ribbon Survey, to enjoy some specialty coffee.

Center Coffee Gwanghwamun is a café focused on the essence of coffee — they say they extract even their decaf carefully so it's still full of flavor.

From bean selection to roasting to extraction, they emphasize balance, aiming for a cup anyone can enjoy without hesitation.

A space in the heart of Seoul where you can quietly focus on coffee. Calm and minimal, it seemed great for sitting alone or just taking a short break.

Americano (₩5,400) — a fragrant americano. You could choose between the Icebreaker blend and decaf beans. Center Coffee's signature Icebreaker blend has a clean cup and good balance.

Just the right amount of acidity with a smooth feel — right up my alley.

Oat Latte (₩6,500) — nutty yet smooth. Would probably be delicious with extra syrup for a sweeter version too, depending on your taste.

What goes into the Greek yogurt bowl

Greek Yogurt Bowl (₩6,800) toppings: banana, seasonal fruit, dried raspberry, granola. A light, clean way to fill up with premium Greek yogurt.

I love Greek yogurt, and this one had that thick, appealing texture. With all the toppings added in, it was tasty and filling.

Matilda chocolat cake: how sweet is it?

Matilda Chocolat Cake (₩8,200) — a soft sponge layered with rich, dense chocolate cream. A really appealing dessert.

I'd been craving a rich cake, and this was exactly what I was looking for. Even though it's a rich chocolat cake, it wasn't overly sweet, which I liked even more. It paired well with the coffee too.
