Tongkeun Shabu (통큰샤브) is an all-you-can-eat shabu-shabu and salad bar restaurant on Mangma-ro near Yeosu City Hall in Jeonnam. A longtime regular at the Suncheon branch visited Tongkeun Shabu in Yeosu on a weekend evening for beef shabu-shabu, fried chicken, mala xiangguo, pizza and spicy chicken feet, then finished with kalguksu (knife-cut noodles) and porridge. The verdict: spicy chicken feet topped with cheese fondue from the cheese fountain was the best bite of the night.

Looking for something other than seafood on a Yeosu trip, the writer ordered a half-and-half pot of regular and chicken broth, then filled up at the salad bar on galbi (sweet marinated ribs), pizza, rose tteokbokki (rice cakes in creamy tomato-chili sauce), sushi and rice paper wraps, finishing with ice cream and coffee. Tongkeun Shabu was one of the most satisfying meals of the trip: generous and well kept.

Two diners returned after 3 years on a Friday after work for the Today's Handon Platter (500g, 55,000 won) and dessert mul-naengmyeon (cold noodles), with complimentary side dishes including tteokbokki, pajeon (savory pancake) and corn cheese, then finished with self-serve patbingsu (red bean shaved ice). The meat, the side dishes and the easy parking at Jino Mokjang Museon Branch all made for a satisfying return visit.
