Magok Korean BBQ with 4-floor parking tower and grill swaps: Ihwajeong

In short

Ihwajeong Galbi Myeongga Magok-Balsan Branch is a beef and pork galbi (marinated ribs) specialist near Balsan Station and Magok in Gangseo, Seoul. Visiting with their parents, the writer ordered three servings of pork galbi with doenjang stew (soybean paste stew) and naengmyeon (cold noodles), and found the 4-floor parking tower next to the building with its own attendant, staff who grill every piece from start to finish, and grill plates swapped before anyone asks especially easy. Ihwajeong Galbi Myeongga is a safe, no-fuss pick for a family gathering with older parents.

I had a meal to plan with my parents, so I went into full search mode for good restaurants around Magok and Balsan Station in Gangseo. When you're taking older parents out, my priorities are, in order: clean, comfortable, and absolutely convenient parking. I searched high and low for a place that hit all three, and landed on this Balsan Station Korean BBQ spot.

A Balsan Station Korean BBQ with no parking stress

That's how I found Ihwajeong Galbi Myeongga Magok-Balsan Branch and went straight there. The biggest worry when driving to a restaurant is always where to park. Basement parking lots these days often have narrow, dark entrances, and honestly quite a few people are nervous about driving or parking underground — but here, none of that was a concern at all.

The large 4-floor parking tower beside the building

Right next to the building there's a large, dedicated 4-floor parking tower, plus an attendant who manages parking full-time, so even a beginner driver could park comfortably and safely. I walked in without a shred of parking stress and in a great mood.

The moment I stepped inside, the interior felt genuinely upscale and neat.

The hall itself is very spacious with generous gaps between tables, and the seating is well divided, so it's structured perfectly for group gatherings or company dinners without worrying about your neighbors.

On top of that, there's a good variety of private rooms sized for different group counts, which made me think there's no better place for a tidy family meal or gathering like the one we had with my parents.

Ordering three servings of pork galbi

This place specializes mainly in beef galbi and pork galbi. After checking the menu, we ordered three servings of pork galbi.

Side dishes that feel like a hanjeongsik spread

Not long after we ordered, the basic side dishes arrived, and everyone was impressed by the range and quality. It went well beyond typical BBQ-joint banchan (side dishes) — it felt like sitting down at a fine hanjeongsik (Korean set-course) restaurant, neat and clean.

Basic side dishes arranged neatly like a hanjeongsik course

From an array of pickled vegetables to a refreshing salad that whets the appetite, clean and cool white kimchi, soft potato salad, and nutty cheongpomuk (green mung bean jelly) — every single side dish felt made with care, and none were oversalted, which made my parents very happy too.

Then came the main event: the pork galbi. My family are all big eaters, so whenever we go to a BBQ place we basically always order more than the headcount. The moment the three servings of pork galbi hit the plate, we all blurted out, "Wow, that's a lot!" Just seeing the generous portion before it even hit the grill made us feel satisfied.

Staff grill everything and swap the plate before you ask

One of the biggest perks of this place is that a veteran staff member grills all the meat for you from start to finish.

Marinated pork galbi tends to burn easily on the grill if you look away for even a second, which makes it hard to chat while grilling and takes a surprising amount of attention,

but the staff member grilled it to exactly the right doneness and neatly plated it for us to eat with ease. Thanks to that, I never had to worry about burning anything and could just focus on relaxed conversation with my parents throughout the meal.

What genuinely touched me most was the grill-plate replacement service. Usually at BBQ restaurants, once the plate turns black you either feel too awkward to call the staff over or have to ask every single time — but here, the staff kept a careful eye on every table and swapped in a fresh grill plate before we even had to ask. Thanks to that thoughtful service, we got to enjoy clean, golden-brown meat with not a single burnt scrap of sauce on it, all the way through. The level of service was genuinely top-notch. It let us focus entirely on relaxed conversation with my parents without a single worry about burnt meat.

How the pork-neck galbi tastes

Ihwajeong Galbi Myeongga's pork galbi is made with carefully selected, high-quality pork neck (mokssal). Because of that, the meat itself is firm without any dryness, and grows moist and tender the more you chew. The marinade seeps deep into the meat, and its flavor isn't overly sweet or salty — instead it wraps the palate gently. Each bite, lightly touched with charcoal flavor, bursts with savory juices, and you just keep reaching for more without ever getting tired of it. My parents said the meat was truly tender and the seasoning felt upscale, and ate it very happily.

Omija ade received through the receipt review event

Why omija ade is the perfect match

Midway through the meal, we took part in a receipt review event and received omija (schisandra berry) ade, which turned out to be a treat in itself. After eating the sweet and salty pork galbi, one sip of the tart yet sweet-and-tangy omija ade washed all the greasiness out of my mouth and left everything refreshed. The pairing with pork galbi was more perfect than I ever expected.

Finishing with doenjang stew and naengmyeon

Once we'd mostly finished the meat, we ordered doenjang (soybean paste) stew and naengmyeon (cold noodles) as a follow-up dish. Wrapping a piece of nicely grilled pork galbi in a strand of cool naengmyeon noodles was, as expected, the perfect way to close out the meal.

From the spacious, clean dining room to the convenient parking, the attentive grilling service, the hanjeongsik-level side dishes, and the high standard of the meat itself — this Balsan Station Korean BBQ spot didn't fall short anywhere. It feels like a can't-fail choice for taking your parents out or hosting an important gathering.
