Cheonan chicken stew lunch with a ₩5,000 discount: Sottture Dakdoritang
In short
Sottture Dakdoritang is a Korean restaurant in Seongjeong-dong, Cheonan, serving made-to-order dakdoritang (spicy braised chicken stew). Before a movie, my husband and I shared a whole chicken and a bowl of rice with its clean yet deeply flavored broth, well-seasoned chicken, and potatoes. Verdict: the lunch discount and free ice cream make Sottture Dakdoritang a satisfying lunch stop.

There is a dedicated parking lot behind the building, so parking is easy! We spotted an open space on a nearby side street and parked there casually.

Sottture Dakdoritang (솥뚜레 닭도리탕) also runs a lunch discount, plus a takeout discount! If you visit between 11:00 and 14:00, you get ₩5,000 off. Dakdoritang for lunch is already a good idea, and getting a discount too is even better, so keep the timing in mind if it works for you.
A clean, cozy interior that was busy even on a weekday lunch

As soon as we stepped inside, the clean and cozy atmosphere welcomed us. Even though it was weekday lunchtime, there were quite a few people there.

There is also a neat self-service bar in the middle of the restaurant. If you run short on any banchan (Korean side dishes) or accompaniments during your meal, it is convenient to help yourself whenever you want without feeling self-conscious!
When you eat dakdoritang, you do end up wanting something to have alongside the broth and chicken, you know? Rather than loading up from the start, I liked being able to bring back only what we needed as we ate.
A whole chicken cooked as soon as you order

We ordered the whole chicken and one bowl of rice! They said cooking starts immediately when you order. I really loved that it was not prepared ahead of time and reheated, so it felt genuinely fresh.
A dakdoritang meal with deep flavor from the broth onward

After a short wait, a table-filling, mouthwatering dakdoritang arrived! We let it bubble away on the table, and even the smell of the broth was incredible.
What especially caught my eye was the adorable egg. It had been decorated in a tiny chick-like shape, and it was so cute that I simply had to take a photo, haha.

They said they use Korean chicken and age their special secret sauce at a low temperature, and that description fit perfectly. It was exactly to my and my husband's taste, while the broth was not heavy or murky—just clean, with a deep flavor that came through beautifully.

The seasoning had soaked right into the lean chicken, so we could enjoy it tenderly without any dry texture. There were also nicely cooked rice cakes in the pot, and their wonderfully chewy texture was just perfect.

The potatoes and assorted vegetables had soaked up the seasoning too, and mixing them with the rice and broth was seriously delicious. My husband and I were probably too busy moving our spoons to say a word.

As we were nearly finished, I noticed a sign on the wall. It kindly said that leftovers could be packed up if you let them know in advance. My husband and I loved it so much that we cleared every last bit, so we did not get the chance to take any home and boil it up again.
Still, the people at the next table neatly packed up their leftovers, perhaps because the portion was so generous. I think it would be just as delicious reheated at home the next day.

After your meal, you can have free ice cream too! Filling up on hot, spicy dakdoritang and then finishing with cold ice cream made for a satisfying little lunch course.
A filling lunch before the movie

We stopped by Sottture Dakdoritang before seeing a movie! Because it was cooked right when we ordered, we could enjoy it piping hot, and the chicken, potatoes, and vegetables were so well seasoned that it made a filling meal with a bowl of rice.
Best of all, my husband and I left having eaten everything without a single leftover 💛 We completely took care of any worries about being hungry before the movie. For anyone who likes dakdoritang, Sottture Dakdoritang was a nice place to stop for a filling lunch.
