Dunsan-dong Korean restaurant for baby-friendly pork gukbap: Hanppong
In short
Hanppong is a Korean restaurant in Dunsan-dong, Daejeon, serving galbitang, gamjatang, and pork gukbap. We tried its mountain-high galbitang and pork bone soup, plus a pork gukbap that our baby finished with half a bowl of rice. Verdict: a spacious, family-friendly choice for generous Korean soups.

Hanppong in the alley across from Daejeon City Hall
There is a high chair for babies, plus group seating and an in-store restroom.
It is in the back alley across the main road from Daejeon City Hall and the City Council, directly behind the Dunsan branch of Worang Myeongga.

A hearty, nourishing bowl made with care! This is Hanppong, serving galbitang (beef short-rib soup) and all kinds of gukbap (rice soup).

Ordering mountain-high galbitang and pork gukbap
I ordered Hanppong’s mountain-high galbitang, mountain-high pork bone soup, and beef-bone pork gukbap. Hanppong insists on using only Korean cabbage and Korean rice, rather than Chinese cabbage that has recently caused an uproar over formaldehyde.

They are running a receipt review event. You get an instant lottery ticket! They also have yukgaejang (spicy beef soup) meal kits ready as review-event prizes. Haha.

Spacious group seating and a varied gukbap menu
The restaurant is spacious, so it looks great for group company meals at lunch or dinner. I think it will be helpful for anyone searching for a Dunsan-dong company dinner or group gathering. There was plenty of space between tables, too, so it felt very comfortable.

The mountain-high galbitang is said to have a deeper, richer taste and aroma thanks to a patented technique and a traditional method of simmering it in a cauldron for 24 hours!! Hanppong’s bak kut teh, said to be a representative nourishing food of Singapore and Malaysia, is said to help with immunity, bone health, circulation, digestion, fatigue recovery, and replenishing energy!!

Hanppong’s doganitang (ox-knee tendon soup), made using only beef fore shank!! A nourishing Korean beef head-meat gukbap with a deep, rich broth simmered in a cauldron for 24 hours, with no additives or coloring!! Mountain-high pork bone hangover soup made using only carefully selected neck bones!! Hanppong has many more menu items besides these.

Spicy Silbi kimchi and the self-service bar
Spicy Silbi kimchi and kkakdugi (cubed radish kimchi) are served, and they were seriously spicy, haha. I have a bit of pride in my spice tolerance, but it was so hot that it made me happy(?) Haha.

This is the self-service bar. You can bring more kimchi from here. It is incredibly clean. It even made my heart feel clean!

On your way out after the meal, you can have an Americano or instant coffee. There is also an ice maker, so you can make an iced Americano.

Here are the Silbi kimchi and kkakdugi. That kkakdugi looks intense, right? Haha. Cut them to suit your preference. Since the Silbi kimchi is very spicy, I recommend cutting it into small pieces!

Mountain-high dishes loaded with meat
The moment it arrived, I blurted out, “Wow, there is seriously so much!” This is Hanppong’s mountain-high galbitang. It had lots of meat on it and plenty of bones, so even after sharing it, we ate our fill of meat, haha.

It is so good with a piece of Silbi kimchi on top~~
Next came the pork gukbap. Can you see how much meat there is? I cut up a lot for the baby and mixed it with the broth, yet there was still enough meat for one adult to eat a whole bowl. Our baby finished half a bowl of rice!! If you are looking for a delicious, good-value restaurant with generous portions in Dunsan-dong, please come here.!!

Next was the pork bone hangover soup. This also comes piled up like a mountain... haha.

The bones were loaded with meat, and they were large, so there was truly a lot of meat. And because it had been carefully simmered for a long time, the meat came off the bone so easily, haha. Just grab it with tongs and it falls right off. Haha.

The meat also came off tenderly and easily. Ah, it would be such a perfect soju snack... Too bad I cannot drink, haha. The portions are large, and at this price, isn’t it truly amazing value? With such a varied menu, Hanppong is a place where several people with different tastes can all enjoy a delicious meal together.!!
