Aged sashimi platter for four at Neoul, a Gongdeok seafood pub

In short

Neoul Gongdeok Direct Branch is an aged sashimi and seasonal seafood pub right in front of Exit 10 of Gongdeok Station in Mapo, Seoul. On a September 2026 visit, the large aged sashimi platter (tuna, flounder, mackerel, salmon and red drum) came with a free 20,000-won clam soup, and the table also ordered spicy alkkoni-jjim (steamed fish roe and milt) and clam ramyeon, eaten at a window seat with the folding doors wide open. In a Mapo full of grilled-meat houses, Neoul is the answer for a group of four that wants seafood and drinks instead.

Neoul Gongdeok Direct Branch, a seafood restaurant near Gongdeok Station

Where is Neoul near Gongdeok Station, and how long is the wait?

When I want fresh seafood near Gongdeok Station, Neoul 🌊 is the first seafood restaurant that comes to mind. It's right in front of Exit 10 of Gongdeok Station, so it's super accessible — and always busy!

Waiting is basically a daily thing here even on weekdays, so it's best to book ahead. If you couldn't get a reservation, I'd recommend arriving before 6 pm.

With so many people coming through, turnover is fast, which means the ingredients stay fresh! When it comes to seafood, going to the place with the line is the way to go, even if it means waiting 😉

Folding doors open: Neoul's open-air drinking vibe

The restaurant is pretty spacious, and on nice days they open the folding doors for a yajang (outdoor drinking tent) feel 🐟 September is getting cooler, so sitting by the window and catching the outside air is really nice.

It's the kind of atmosphere where the drinks just keep flowing — and if you visit after 10 pm, ordering just one menu item gets you a free bottle of soju or beer, which makes it great for a second round too.

What to order at Neoul Gongdeok Direct Branch

Menu board for aged raw fish and seasonal seafood at Neoul
Menu notice for the September prawn special

Neoul, a seafood specialist near Gongdeok Station, focuses on sukseonghoe (aged raw fish) and seasonal seafood 🐳 What really stands out is the seasonal special that changes every month — in September, it's prawns! Grilled prawns and raw shrimp were just added. In August, squid was the main feature, and I really wanted to try the squid sashimi and steamed squid, but sadly they were discontinued. I'll have to wait until next year.

Retro newspaper table with the basic puffed corn snack

The free starter: nostalgic puffed corn

The basic side snack is nostalgic gangnaengi (puffed corn snack).

Neoul near Gongdeok has a retro concept, and the tables are decorated with newspapers from the 1950s–60s — it's fun to munch on the puffed corn while reading the old headlines.

Aged sashimi platter (large): enough for four

The large sukseonghoe (aged raw fish) platter for four is my recommendation 🐠 Neoul's aged raw fish uses a low-temperature salt-curing method, giving it a rich umami flavor and soft texture.

The large aged raw fish platter spread at Neoul

Vinegared rice, white kimchi, and wrap vegetables on the side

The platter comes with sides that pair well with the raw fish — minari (water celery) salad tossed in soybean powder, vinegared rice with sea bream, white kimchi, and lettuce wraps — so you can build your own bites however you like. This kind of full-table spread seems to be trending lately.

A plate of tuna, flounder, mackerel, salmon, and croaker aged raw fish

The aged raw fish selection changes depending on the season — for my September visit, it was tuna, flounder, mackerel, salmon, and croaker, five kinds total.

Tuna and mackerel are fish usually only eaten aged, and they were aged just right — the texture stayed chewy and the savory flavor really came through. The flounder was also low-temperature aged, with a nice chewy bite and a subtle sweetness and umami!

Instructions on how to enjoy the aged raw fish

How to eat Neoul's aged sashimi for the best flavor

There's a little guide on how to enjoy the aged raw fish, so here it is for reference.

  • A bite wrapped in perilla leaf or lettuce with soybean-powder minari salad on top
  • A bite of vinegared rice on gim (dried seaweed)
  • A bite of white fish on gim, paired with white kimchi

And of course, somaek (soju + beer mix) 🍻 Sitting by the window, feeling the cooler outside air, and having a cold somaek — that's real stress relief. If you're looking for an outdoor-tent (yajang) spot in Gongdeok, Neoul is a great choice!

The complimentary clam soup served in a stone pot

Clam soup 🐚 If you order the large aged raw fish platter, you get a ₩20,000 clam soup for free!

This clam soup comes in a stone pot packed full of clams, perfect for a warm, hearty broth. You can also add kalguksu (knife-cut noodles).

The refreshing clam broth gets extra sweetness from napa cabbage and minari, making the soup taste just right.

A serving of spicy egg-and-milt stew

How spicy is Neoul's spicy alkkoni-jjim (fish roe and milt)?

Spicy egg-and-milt stew 🔥 This dish is packed with fish egg/milt, bean sprouts, and minari — it's quite spicy and sharp, fair warning! If you're sensitive to spice, it might be a bit much.

The egg-and-milt stew loaded with bean sprouts and minari

The crunchy texture of the bean sprouts and minari is great, and since they're the kind of vegetables that are easy to eat even when full, this dish makes a perfect extra side.

A generous portion of the egg-and-milt stew

The portion is more generous than expected, making it filling enough on its own — I'd recommend it if you're craving something spicy.

Clam ramyeon with big clam pieces

Finishing with clam ramyeon

To finish, spicy clam ramyeon (instant noodles) 🍜 We were full and weren't going to order more, but we kept chatting for so long that we ended up craving one last dish.

The ramyeon was loaded with big clams, bean sprouts, and green onion, and the broth was super refreshing — a perfect way to end the meal.

Why Neoul works as a group spot near Gongdeok Station

Gongdeok Station is such a popular meeting spot that there are plenty of good restaurants, and waits are unavoidable — but since the Mapo area is famous for Korean BBQ, there don't seem to be that many great seafood spots!

Neoul, a bar and restaurant near Gongdeok Station, has fast turnover so you can taste really fresh seafood, and you can properly enjoy that outdoor-tent atmosphere — worth seeking out if you're tired of meat. The pleasantly lively vibe is great too, and with so many different snacks and dishes, the drinks just keep going 😎

If you're looking for a Gongdeok meeting spot with something different — a seafood restaurant — I recommend Neoul! 💙
