Today I was craving clean, comforting Korean food after a while, so I went with my family to a well-known hanjeongsik (Korean set-meal) specialist. It's a place close to the city yet with a quiet, natural feel where you can eat at your leisure, and it's already loved by a lot of people — Gim Myeongju Tteuranchae Bapsang Bucheon Main Branch, well known as a Gachiul-area favorite.

Parking and opening hours at Gim Myeongju Tteuranchae Bapsang near Gachiul Station

The Bucheon Main Branch has a large parking area right in front, so there's no need to worry about parking even if you drive. I drove there myself and could pull in and park comfortably.

It's open daily from 10:30 a.m. to 9 p.m., with last order at 8 p.m. These days a lot of restaurants have a break time that makes timing your visit awkward, but this place has none — so you can go whenever and still eat at a relaxed pace. That was a real advantage.

What the dining room feels like inside

Walking into Gim Myeongju Tteuranchae Bapsang Bucheon Main Branch, I was greeted by a neat, warm atmosphere. The tables are spaced generously, so it looked ideal for bringing parents, family gatherings, or small get-togethers. The tidy interior put me in a good mood before the food even arrived — a real find among Bucheon hanjeongsik restaurants.

Menu and ordering: the basic table plus soy crab and cheonggukjang

Looking at the menu, the set-meal lineup was substantial. Since the pot rice is freshly cooked to order, they said it takes about 15 minutes to prepare with care.

The signature menus include the borigulbi (dried yellow croaker) set, soy crab set, charcoal pork set, cockle salad set, and grilled mackerel set, among others.

You can also add your choice of main dish to the basic table, so it's easy to order something suited to your taste at a reasonable price. For a rich, varied meal, we ordered a combination featuring soy crab and hearty cheonggukjang.

12 banchan in brassware and freshly cooked stone-pot rice

A little later, a neatly arranged table filled up the whole surface. The 12 banchan served cleanly in brassware, the fragrant cheonggukjang, and the steaming pot rice made for a spread that brought a smile to my face just looking at it. A table this generous and this carefully made truly showed off why it's known as a Gachiul favorite.

First, I scooped the rice out of the hot stone pot and poured in water to make nurungji (scorched-rice tea) later. The freshly cooked rice was glossy and had a distinctly good aroma. The basic banchan — seasoned vegetables, stir-fried eggplant, japchae (glass noodle stir-fry), lotus root, kimchi, aged kimchi, and more — were all served elegantly in brassware.

The seasoning wasn't too strong, letting the natural flavor of each ingredient shine — a taste anyone, young or old, would like without exception. The banchan had such deep, homemade flavor that a bowl of rice disappeared in no time. If you're looking for a Bucheon hanjeongsik restaurant with a clean, substantial banchan spread, this is clearly a place you should visit.

The self-serve corner and how cheonggukjang and japchae refills work

Gim Myeongju Tteuranchae Bapsang Bucheon Main Branch has a self-serve corner where you can freely help yourself to more banchan, rice, and water. The self-serve bar was always kept clean and hygienic, which made it feel even more reassuring to use.

One thing that impressed me was the restaurant's careful operating principle: if you ask for a cheonggukjang refill, staff bring out a freshly bubbling new pot rather than just topping up.

Similarly, japchae — which can easily go soggy or spoil if left out — isn't kept on the self-serve bar for long. Instead, staff keep it fresh in the kitchen and refill it directly on request. It felt very thoughtful that they took this much care over even a small side dish.

Soy-marinated crab, cheonggukjang and a nurungji tea finish

The main dish, soy crab, was visually overwhelming — packed with roe and meat. The soy sauce marinade, sweet and salty in just the right balance without being too salty, soaked deep into the crab meat and made it perfect over rice.

Mixing hot pot rice into the crab shell released a savory, rich flavor that filled my mouth and drew a genuine sigh of satisfaction. I immediately understood why so many people rank Gim Myeongju Tteuranchae Bapsang Bucheon Main Branch as a top hanjeongsik spot.

The cheonggukjang served alongside was also excellent — savory with deep broth flavor. Packed with tofu and vegetables, it was perfect mixed into rice. Topping the freshly cooked pot rice with a spoonful of hearty cheonggukjang warmed me from the inside and felt genuinely healing. After finishing the rice, I wrapped up the meal with the nurungji (scorched-rice tea) saved from the stone pot. Topping the nurungji with a bit of salty pickled vegetable or seasoned greens made for a clean, perfect finish.

And with no break time, being able to visit whenever suits you is a small but real advantage.
