Namyang Korean BBQ in Hwaseong, Saturday dinner for groups: Morakmorak

There's a meat restaurant near Hwaseong City Hall that I had to go back to — this is actually my second visit haha 😉 Today I'm introducing Morakmorak Jeongyuk Sikdang Namyang Hwaseong City Hall Main Branch, near Rolling Hills by the city hall.

Where is Morakmorak in Namyang, and is there parking?

It's located at 70 Yeokgoljungang-ro, Namyang-eup, Mansei-gu, Hwaseong-si, Gyeonggi-do, South Korea, 1st floor.

There's a private lot with 20 spaces, which is plenty. Honestly you could also just park on the roadside nearby, so parking really isn't something to worry about haha.

How big is the restaurant on a busy Saturday evening?

The place is spacious and clean overall. It's really, really big, so it'd be great for group gatherings or company dinners. I visited on a Saturday evening and got the very last available table. Make a reservation — this place is popular 〰️

Picking your own cut and getting it pre-grilled

After you sit down, you choose your meat and hand it over, and they bring it back to your table pre-grilled. All the meat looked fresh, and being able to choose it yourself was great 🫢

What's on the self-bar and in the tortilla zone?

There's a well-stocked self-bar too. If you want something that's not part of the basic side dishes, like pickled radish or bracken fern, you can grab it there.

What I loved was the taco zone, where you can eat the meat wrapped in tortillas. There's tortillas, sriracha mayo, guacamole and a bunch of other sauces to go with it. Definitely wrap some up 🫢

Unlimited bone-broth ramen refills

And I loved that you can get unlimited refills of ramen in bone broth. Maybe because of the bone broth, the ramen soup tasted richer and better 🫢

Orders are placed through the tablet at each table.

There's a ₩5,000 per-person table charge for dining in. But with unlimited ramen refills and the taco setup, it didn't feel like a waste of money at all 🫶🏻

Side dishes and the free beef tartare

Here's the basic side dish spread. What was unusual was a doenjang jjigae (soybean paste stew) placed right in the middle of the meat area. And this doenjang jjigae broth and vegetables are refillable too.

And fresh yukhoe (Korean beef tartare) comes out as a basic side dish. You could easily down three shots of soju on this yukhoe alone..🫠

We grabbed a few more side dishes from the self-bar — bracken fern, wild garlic leaves, wasabi and more 🫶🏻 All the combinations that go well with meat were there. You can just pick whatever suits your taste.

The pickled onions and shredded scallions here were especially good — everyone should try them ✌🏻

Pork belly and pork jowl, plus an extra order of pork neck

We ordered pork belly and pork jowl, then added pork neck at the end. We came home completely stuffed 🐽

The meat we chose comes back pre-grilled. They cut it into bite-sized pieces right in front of you and ask if the thickness is okay. Very attentive 🫢

I was surprised how fast their hands were 🫢 And the cutting board and knife were both spotless, which felt hygienic too.

They plate it on dry ice like this, which adds a certain flair..😉 It felt like eating a fancier cut of meat.

You just grill this pre-grilled meat further on the pan 🤤 We love napa cabbage kimchi, so we grilled it together with bracken fern.

Here's the pork neck we added. It was also super tender and melted in the mouth 🤩

And to finish off, we had ramen in the bone broth. The broth was so rich it felt like an instant hangover cure.

In the end, the two of us finished four bottles of soju and every bit of meat we ordered before heading home. A confirmed good restaurant.
