Gongju Korean set meal with minari tteokgalbi: Bapkkot Hana Pieotne

If you want a proper Korean set meal in Gongju with a table full of side dishes, I’d recommend Bapkkot Hana Pieotne. I stopped by for a visit!

A Korean set-meal restaurant that is easy to reach by car in Gyeryong-myeon

Bapkkot Hana Pieotne is in Gyeryong-myeon rather than central Gongju, so it is quite convenient to visit by car. We drove there too, and didn’t have to worry much or circle around looking for parking. There are actually several parking areas, so it is a good place to stop for a meal after a drive around Gongju or a trip to Gyeryongsan.

Rather than a Korean set-meal restaurant in the city, it feels a little like you have come out to the outskirts of Gongju for an outing. The surroundings are fairly quiet too, giving it a nice atmosphere for a meal with your parents or during a family trip to Gongju. Places like this are especially nice when you drive over leisurely on the weekend and have a proper meal, haha.

The dining area was spacious, with generously arranged seating, so we could eat and chat comfortably.

Minari tteokgalbi set meals ordered with two sauces

The signature menu includes the minari tteokgalbi set meal at ₩30,000, the cheonnyeoncho tteokgalbi set meal at ₩35,000, and the charcoal-grilled spicy pork set meal at ₩25,000. You can add minari tteokgalbi for ₩5,000, while cheonnyeoncho tteokgalbi and charcoal-grilled spicy pork are ₩10,000 each. What we had was, of course, the minari tteokgalbi set meal we were most curious about!

For two minari tteokgalbi set meals, ₩60,000, we ordered one soy sauce minari tteokgalbi and one gochujang minari tteokgalbi. You can choose different flavors even when ordering the same menu twice, so we got one soy sauce and one gochujang. If we had chosen just one, I think we would have kept wondering about the other flavor, but ordering this way meant we could compare both, which was great.

The soy sauce version was close to a familiar tteokgalbi flavor—slightly sweet and savory—so it would be easy for most people to enjoy. The tteokgalbi itself goes well with rice, and the soy sauce seasoning also made it easy to eat with the side dishes. The gochujang version had a much more pronounced seasoning than the soy sauce one, the kind that makes you want more rice! They were the same minari tteokgalbi, but the sauces gave them different personalities, and it was fun alternating between them.

A generous spread of side dishes that fills the table

And there are really a lot of side dishes here. It is not just the main tteokgalbi—so many different banchan (Korean side dishes) come out that they nearly fill the table.

The spread was so generous that it really felt like we had come for a Korean set meal.

It was not a case of reaching for only one or two side dishes either. There was fun in choosing a little of this and that, and a bowl of rice disappeared in no time.

The stew had a deep flavor, and the vegetable fritters were so crisp and delicious 😯

It tasted a little strongly seasoned to me, so I made lots of ssam (leaf wraps)!

Apparently, the wrap greens are grown at the farm right in front of the restaurant.

Why it suited a meal with parents or a family outing

The minari tteokgalbi was delicious, but I think this place’s biggest strength is definitely its generous full-table spread. At ₩30,000 per person, it is a little pricey for a casual meal, but considering the set meal of main tteokgalbi plus a variety of side dishes all at once, it suited a meal with parents or a family meal out very well.

If you want Korean food in Gongju that feels a little more properly prepared than a simple baekban (everyday Korean set meal), or you are looking for a place to eat with family near Gyeryongsan, Bapkkot Hana Pieotne was a good option.
