What's on the Kongbatteul Sokcho Branch menu?

✔️ Kongbatteul Sokcho Branch's menu. Another charm of Kongbatteul is that beyond sundubu, they have a wide range of tofu-based dishes and full meals to choose from!

There are hot sundubu jjigae varieties, plus cheonggukjang (fermented soybean stew), kimchi jjigae, tteok mandu guk (rice cake and dumpling soup), kongguksu (cold soy milk noodles), tteokgalbi (short rib patties), and more — plenty to pick from depending on your taste - 🤍

🥢 Side dishes at Kongbatteul Sokcho Branch. Since it's a tofu specialty restaurant, plenty of tofu-based dishes came out together, and it was fun trying each one! As you can see in the photo, tofu ganjeong (sweet glazed tofu), tofu tteokgalbi, tofu kimchi, and more were all laid out on the table ✨

Tofu ganjeong, tofu tteokgalbi, and other tofu side dishes

The tofu tteokgalbi in particular had a softer texture than regular tteokgalbi, probably because of the tofu mixed in, so it offered a different feel from the sundubu ⛧

There were so many side dishes that sundubu alone would be filling enough, but adding a bit of everything made the meal feel so much more abundant ෆ*₊

Tofu ganjeong had a sweet glaze that added a sugary highlight among the otherwise plain tofu dishes, and tofu kimchi combined the plainness of tofu with the tangy, spicy flavor of well-fermented kimchi — great paired with the sundubu ˚₊·

Jjamppong sundubu, 10,000 won: how did it taste?

🫕 Kongbatteul Sokcho Branch's jjamppong sundubu. It came out bubbling in a stone pot, looking delicious from the very start ✨ The spicy flavor hits first, but it's not just heat — the umami from the seafood and the softness of the sundubu came through too, and it was so good!

The sundubu itself was really soft

It broke apart into soft, cloud-like pieces at the slightest touch of a spoon, and melted almost instantly in the mouth — it paired incredibly well with the spicy broth. The broth wasn't just lightly spicy; it was rich, deeply spicy, and full of umami!! Honestly, the broth itself was great, but what I loved most was the sundubu inside it ෆ

Seafood sundubu, 11,000 won: what is it like?

🫕 Kongbatteul Sokcho Branch's seafood sundubu. If you want to enjoy the refreshing seafood flavor a bit more comfortably than in the jjamppong version, seafood sundubu is perfect ➰ Above all, the sundubu here is incredibly soft, so scooping it up with the broth felt amazing ⛧

The plain, nutty flavor unique to sundubu really came through, and eating it with the hot broth felt gentle on the stomach 🫧 This is a great spot for anyone who prefers soft, hearty Korean food over something too intense -🤍

Why the kongbiji side dish stole the meal

⭐️ The kongbiji (ground soybean stew) that was so delicious. There's one dish here I really have to mention — kongbiji ෆ Kongbatteul served it as a side dish, and honestly, it was so good !!!

Their kongbiji had a strong plain, nutty, soft flavor. The nutty richness of the soybeans really came through, and the seasoning wasn't overdone, so I kept reaching for more ✨

If sundubu has the charm of being soft and mild, kongbiji lets you taste a deeper, nuttier soybean flavor — eating them together, each had its own distinct appeal ☺️ If you love kongbiji, you have to try this one, it's genuinely delicious ⋆*

ㄴ Writing this post is making me want to eat it again… totally my taste ꣑୧

Why tofu and sundubu are worth eating

Beyond simply being a light food, tofu and sundubu are made from soybeans, which apparently means they're a good source of plant-based protein :) Soybeans are known as a complete protein containing all nine essential amino acids, and tofu also contains protein along with calcium, manganese, copper, selenium, and other nutrients — making it one of those healthy ingredients that covers both protein and several nutrients ミ⛧

What comes in the 10,000 won tofu set meal

✔️ Kongbatteul Sokcho Branch's tofu set — a hearty spread for ₩10,000. The tofu set is ₩10,000 per person,💶 and it comes with a main dish plus several tofu dishes, so it felt like great value for the price 👍🏻

With the tofu set, you choose a main dish and enjoy it alongside a variety of tofu dishes and sides like tofu tteokgalbi, sweet-and-sour tofu, tofu kimchi, tofu salad, and kongtang (soybean soup) — a satisfyingly full spread!

If you love tofu, the advantage here is being able to try several tofu dishes at once instead of just one⋆˚ Considering it's only ₩10,000 per person, it felt like a great-value way to eat a filling meal in Sokcho ✨
