Gangdong Seoul Korean BBQ with mild assorted meats: Bulhyanggi
In short
Bulhyanggi is a Korean barbecue restaurant in Gangdong, Seoul, near Cheonho Station. I paired a mild assorted meat set for two with steamed egg and tuna rice balls. Verdict: a lively post-work spot for drinks and smoky grilled meat.

An old-school Korean BBQ spot always packed on the walk home from Cheonho Station
Whenever I passed by after work, this place was always full of people. So I had been curious! I finally went, haha. This is Bulhyanggi (불향기), a Cheonho drinking spot where you can properly soak up that old-school restaurant vibe while enjoying grilled meat and drinks.
You can feel that retro, old-school vibe right from the entrance, can't you? It had an easygoing atmosphere for everyone from people in their 20s and 30s to those in their 40s and 50s who are familiar with this kind of setting to have a drink.

Wood-toned walls throughout, round stainless-steel tables, drum-barrel stools, and warm lighting—it is perfect~~ Just looking at the interior makes you want a drink.

The restaurant is on the small side, but that only makes the bustling pub atmosphere come alive even more. It looked like a good choice for a Cheonho date, get-together, or work dinner. From meat to seafood! And there are set menus for people who cannot decide! Look closely at each menu item and you cannot help thinking of a drink—there are so many great drinking snacks, haha. Tonight, let's get properly tipsy—cheers!

Assorted grilled meat with adjustable spice
You can adjust the spice level too, but this writer's limit is Shin Ramyun. So there was no need for a long discussion: I recommend mild! The abomasum, beef intestine, pork belly, and pork skin were all things I love, so I was already happy before taking a bite.

The chew of abomasum and the chew of beef intestine are different, you know? There was barely any off smell or fishiness, and above all, the seasoning was the masterstroke! The savory flavor of the abomasum and intestine with that spicy seasoning kept me reaching for more.

The more I ate the pork belly and pork skin, the better they got... haha. If you love meat with a proper smoky char, I think you will be satisfied! Ah... on Friday evening, I can feel it bubbling up from deep in my stomach again. I want to go now!!!

Sides that went beautifully with the spicy assorted meat
Fluffy steamed egg
The steamed egg looked deliciously fluffy just sitting there! It was soft and warm, so taking a spoonful here and there while eating the spicy seasoning completely reset my mouth. Why can I never make it taste like this at home, owner? Haha, please share the steamed egg recipe!

Springy tuna rice balls
I mixed up the tuna rice balls thoroughly and ta-da, haha. The pairing of savory mayonnaise and tuna was seriously delicious... With the spicy assorted meat, it was a fantastic combination. Rice balls really need that springy, nicely textured rice, and these were practically the president of springy rice, haha. From the right tuna-to-mayonnaise ratio to that handmade touch, this was a soulmate-level tuna rice ball.

If you want a drink in Cheonho, the food is so good that it naturally becomes cheers! Cheers! Cheers! I did three rounds in a row here, haha. Honestly, even someone who does not drink might discover the taste of alcohol if they come here.

If you add Bulhyanggi to an evening course in the up-and-coming Cheonho and Gangdong area, I think you can have a perfect day! It is a place that suits ending the week on a good note, having a serious conversation, going on a date, meeting friends, or holding a Cheonho work dinner. There was a reason it was always busy on my walk home, haha. Bulhyanggi, a Cheonho drinking spot: small but mighty!
