Everyone!! Outdoor tent season is finally back!🍻 This exact stretch of the year, weather-wise, is my absolute favorite time to eat and hang out outside....💚
I went with my boyfriend to enjoy an outdoor tent night at Chowon Restaurant Jongno 3-ga Branch after a long while. It's on the currently-hot outdoor tent line near Tapgol Park. Lots of people have been looking for Jongno's outdoor tents lately, so we made sure to enjoy it properly while the weather was nice! We got to grill everything outdoors from hanwoo (Korean beef) to pork belly, which made it perfect for a dinner date with a drink.
Cool evening air, a hanwoo fire show, pork belly, and beer-soju cocktails — the outdoor terrace vibe here was on point🍻
Where is Chowon Restaurant Jongno 3-ga, and how do you get there?
Chowon Restaurant is near Tapgol Park. It was about a 3-minute walk from Jongno 3-ga Station Line 5, and about 7 minutes from Line 1.
It's also close to the outdoor tent line that's hot right now, so when we arrived in the evening there were tons of people around drinking at outdoor tables. We joined the vibe right along with them, haha.
Why the outdoor terrace seats at Chowon Restaurant are the ones to get
What I liked best about Chowon Restaurant was honestly the outdoor terrace seating. There are only about 5 tables, so it's not exactly spacious — when we visited, everyone else was waiting around for an outdoor seat too.
Isn't the atmosphere just great ㅠㅠ Grilling meat and having a drink in the cool evening air, I finally got why Jongno's outdoor tents are so popular these days, haha. This is exactly why people come out for it, lol.
The interior is done up in a retro style too, which somehow fit right in with the atmosphere around Tapgol Park. Still, if you're visiting on a nice-weather day like this, I'd say go straight for an outdoor seat!
1++ hanwoo striploin and the tableside fire show
What we ordered that day: 🥩 1++ hanwoo striploin, 🐷 quick-frozen pork belly, 2 servings. We started with the hanwoo striploin.
The beef looked amazing the moment it hit the table.
The staff grill the beef for you, and right there, out of nowhere, the fire show started🔥 The moment the flames shot up, everyone around gasped and pulled out their phones to snap photos and videos, lol. I recorded it too.📸
It's not just fun to watch — the well-grilled striploin was juicy and tender too. Maybe it was the outdoor setting, but it somehow tasted even better.
Quick-frozen pork belly at Chowon Restaurant: 180g for 18,000 won
After the hanwoo, next up was the quick-frozen pork belly! You can't leave a vibe like this without eating pork belly, haha. The quick-frozen pork belly is 180g for ₩18,000, and once it arrived, the portion felt quite generous compared to pork belly I've had elsewhere.
And with pork belly, the side dishes you grill alongside it really matter.
They loaded the grill up with kimchi, green onion kimchi, bean sprouts, and bracken fern generously. Once the kimchi and bracken fern turn golden in the meat fat, you eat them together with a piece of pork belly! That combo is nearly impossible to mess up, lol. Personally, I also liked the order of starting with hanwoo and moving on to pork belly.
A somaek to finish: is Jongno 3-ga outdoor tent dining worth it?
After hanwoo and pork belly, drinks were a must. We had a soju-beer cocktail that day!🍺 You don't need anything super special — just good food and a drink with someone you love, that kind of time is what I really love, haha.
Chowon Restaurant in particular was fun for the hanwoo fire show, and I liked the menu combo of moving from hanwoo straight into pork belly.
