An eel rice bowl restaurant 5 minutes from Seonleung Station, with free parking

If you're looking for a Seonleung restaurant, I'd recommend Manmok. It's a 5-minute walk from Seonleung Station. Free parking made it easy to visit by car too, haha.

Manmok's exterior finished in stone and wood

Since '鰻' means eel, Manmok is an eel rice bowl specialty restaurant. The stone and wood finish gave a tidy, refined feel right from the entrance.

Manmok's menu and prices

The menu is simple — eel rice bowl is the only dish. Half serving ₩26,000, full serving ₩39,000, 1.5 servings ₩50,000. There's also a separate drinks list.

Starting with chawanmushi and clear soup

Once you order, chawanmushi (steamed egg) and clear soup come out first. The egg custard was soft and made a nice palate cleanser, haha. The clear soup had sansho leaf on top, giving it a subtle fragrance.

How was the ₩50,000 eel rice bowl (1.5 servings)?

The 1.5-serving eel rice bowl (₩50,000). Manmok piles the eel on so thick you can barely see the rice underneath. Just looking at the glossy visual got me excited, haha.

It's steamed once then grilled in the Kanto style, so the skin was crispy and the flesh moist. There was a subtle charcoal aroma with no fishy smell at all.

Picking it up with chopsticks, you can feel the thick, meaty texture. The grain held together and lifted up whole without falling apart. It had real thickness and a satisfying bite.

The sauce wasn't too salty, so the ratio with the rice was just right. The rice soaked up just enough sauce to stay enjoyable to the last bite — eating the eel and rice together in one spoonful was the best part.

Seaweed underneath the eel

Looking closely, there's seaweed (gim) laid under the eel. The seaweed's aroma added another layer of umami. Thanks to this combination, I finished the bowl in no time, haha.

Halfway through, I tried adding a little wasabi. Its sharp aroma cut through the richness cleanly.

Finishing with matcha ice cream

After the meal, matcha ice cream comes out as dessert. The deep green tea flavor was a perfect palate cleanser. I liked that they carried the course feel all the way to the end.

With wood finishes and indirect lighting, the atmosphere is calm. That tidy, refined feel typical of a Japanese restaurant really comes through. It wasn't too noisy, so it was easy to talk too.
