In short
Jeongjeong-a Sikdang Jeongwang Branch (정정아식당 정왕점) is a Korean restaurant in the Seochon Sangga complex in Jeongwang-dong, Siheung, specialising in dakbokkeumtang (spicy braised chicken stew) and cockles. The writer ordered the two-person dakbokkeumtang for 24,000 won at Shin Ramyun spice level 2, swapped the seasoned cockle salad for cockle bibimbap, and paid 1,000 won to pack the leftover stew. We had some business in Siheung and were trying to figure out what to eat when we heard about this long-running dakbokkeumtang and cockle place, and it really lived up to its reputation, so delicious! If you're looking for a good spot in Jeongwang-dong, Siheung, I recommend Jeongjeong-a Sikdang Jeongwang Branch for its spicy, rich dakbokkeumtang and its sweet-salty, veggie-and-seaweed-packed cockle bibimbap — the best.

Inside Jeongjeong-a Sikdang Jeongwang Branch: seating and atmosphere
Walking into Jeongjeong-a Sikdang Jeongwang Branch, there's a counter right on the right side that gives off that long-running, well-worn feel. Takeout is clearly available too — during our meal, lots of people were calling in orders and picking up food to go!

Right past the entrance on the left is a spot that works well for groups, and ahead of that is a wide, comfortable dining hall — great for group gatherings or family meals out.

Water and drinks are ₩1,900, self-serve — just grab them and pay at the end. They said alcohol is priced affordably too.

Jeongjeong-a Sikdang Jeongwang Branch is a beloved Korean restaurant in Jeongwang-dong, Siheung, with a lineup that goes beyond dakbokkeumtang and cockle salad to include seafood pancake and full set menus.

Menu and prices at Jeongjeong-a Sikdang Jeongwang Branch
The signature dish at this Jeongwang-dong favorite is the spicy, rich-broth dakbokkeumtang: ₩24,000 for 2 people, ₩29,000 for 3, ₩34,000 for 4 — and the portions are huge. Cockle salad is ₩18,000, grilled kodari (dried pollock) is ₩19,000.
Extra menu items include acorn jelly, boiled squid, seafood pancake, mukchae (starch noodle salad), noodle add-ons (potato noodles, ramyeon, glass noodles), and fried rice — this makes it a solid choice for lunch or dinner, and also works well as a spot for drinks.
We ordered the 2-person dakbokkeumtang for ₩24,000, and switched the seasoned cockle salad to bibimbap instead.

How spicy is spice level 2 dakbokkeumtang?
The lunchtime dakbokkeumtang looked amazing and the portion was generous. It came out looking loaded with care, and the staff told us it needed a quick boil at the table before eating.
The basic side dishes were water kimchi and napgae kimchi (cabbage kimchi), and a spoonful of the cool, refreshing water kimchi paired really well with the spicy, sharp dakbokkeumtang. The spice level is adjustable to taste — we ordered Shin Ramyun spice level 2, and it turned out to be just right for me, deliciously spicy. Since it's refrigerated (not frozen) chicken, the meat was tender and the seasoning had soaked in nicely — very tasty.

The deep red, spicy-looking broth came out not long after we ordered, and just looking at it, you could tell it was going to be sharp, spicy, and delicious. The broth at Jeongjeong-a Sikdang is on the drier side — a broth with a clean, healthy, deeply savory dakbokkeumtang flavor.

The spicy, sharp broth had zero gamey smell thanks to the domestic fresh chicken, and even the breast meat was soft and tender! There were two drumsticks in there too — a full bird's worth — and both the legs and the breast were tender and tasty, with the seasoned broth hitting a sharp, well-balanced sweet-and-spicy note.

Swapping the cockle salad for cockle bibimbap
We had ordered the seasoned cockle salad, but since the dakbokkeumtang was already so much food, we asked to swap it for cockle bibimbap instead, and they happily obliged. It had no fishy taste at all — just fresh, chewy texture.
They said the cockles come fresh, direct from Yeosu and Beolgyo, and are desanded and prepped every morning in-store, making cockle dishes their signature. And so, our bibimbap...

Taking the leftover chicken stew home for 1,000 won
We had so much dakbokkeumtang left over that we couldn't even get to the fried rice, so we thought takeout might be possible and asked — they said yes, so we packed it up and had it as another meal at home.

(Takeout fee: additional ₩1,000)
Is Jeongjeong-a Sikdang Jeongwang Branch worth a visit?
Overall, as a spot for staff dinners in Jeongwang-dong: the staff were kind, and the dakbokkeumtang broth was rich, with the seasoning soaked deeply into the chicken — we ate it up happily. When we packed the leftovers, they added a bit more broth, so we added ramyeon noodles and my husband and I enjoyed it as another meal at home. Always kind, always delicious dakbokkeumtang — I'll be back whenever I'm in Siheung again. Wishing them continued success!
