Gijang Korean restaurant with cockle bibimbap: Kkomak Hansang

While on a family outing around Gijang in Busan, we were looking for somewhere to eat and visited Kkomak Hansang Gijang Main Branch (꼬막한상 기장본점). It is close to Gijang's Dongbusan Outlet and Haedong Yonggungsa Temple, so it was really easy to stop by midway through our trip. More than anything, I wanted somewhere my parents would enjoy too, and once we got there, I could see why it is so often mentioned as a great restaurant in Gijang Osiria. The restaurant was spacious and the staff were kind, so we could begin our meal in a good mood right away.

Floor-to-ceiling views and plenty of dining space

The first thing that caught my eye when I walked in was the open view through the floor-to-ceiling windows. The scenery outside was so green that the space never felt stuffy while we ate, and the overall atmosphere was relaxing.

When visiting with family, having room to dine comfortably is especially important. This place was spacious, with enough distance between tables that we could enjoy our meal at leisure.

The main offerings here are set meals, with four different main dishes in total. Each main dish comes with all 12 side dishes, every person must order one main dish, and main dishes can be ordered for two or more people. We ordered two servings of the cockle bibimbap and beef jeon set, two servings of the cockle bibimbap and spicy dressed cockle set, and eggplant tangsuyuk as a side.

At first, because I had heard it was known for cockle bibimbap, I thought it would simply be a bowl of bibimbap. But it was actually a generous Korean set spread with many neatly arranged dishes.

First came the mains: cockle bibimbap, spicy dressed cockles, and beef jeon! They all arrived as part of the spread. That is why the cockle bibimbap for four servings came in one bowl.

Flounder miyeokguk (seaweed soup) came with it too. I do not usually like seaweed soup with fish in it, but this had no fishy taste at all; it was very clean-tasting and perfectly seasoned.

At Korean set-meal-style restaurants, even when there are lots of side dishes, there are often a few I barely touch. Here, though, the quality of the banchan (Korean side dishes) was really different. Every single one was delicious—nothing went to waste.

They were neither salty nor overly intense, and they paired so well with the cockle bibimbap that I kept reaching for them! I felt even happier because my parents especially enjoyed the side dishes. There is a reason it is considered a Gijang Osiria restaurant that even parents enjoy!

What I liked here was not only the food. It is near the Gijang outlet, Lotte World, and Haedong Yonggungsa Temple, making it a great meal stop after sightseeing or shopping.

The main dishes were so good, but what stayed with me was that every single side dish was delicious too. If you are looking for a Gijang restaurant that is good for families, or considering a Gijang Osiria restaurant recommendation, I think this is well worth a visit. Kkomak Hansang Gijang Main Branch satisfied both my parents and me :)
