Hongdae sushi restaurant for a late Saturday lunch: Yu Iksang Sushi

I went out for sushi in Hongdae at Yu Iksang Sushi! While looking for a sushi place around Hongdae, this one caught my eye because the sushi looked a little unusual and so generous. It turns out they are known for what they call long-tailed sushi, where the fish stretches out well beyond the rice unlike regular sushi!

Walking distance from Hongdae Entrance Station and parking

Yu Iksang Sushi is within walking distance of Hongdae Entrance Station, and it is also fairly close to Hongik University’s main gate! It is just a little off Hongdae’s main street, so it was a nice spot to head to for sushi during a date. Parking is difficult here, so I recommend taking public transportation rather than driving. We visited at 3 p.m. for a late Saturday lunch, and it was almost full!

Couple A set: what is included and the price

Yu Iksang Sushi had everything from individual sushi pieces to set menus. Since there were two of us, we ordered the Couple A set! 🍣 Couple A: ₩52,000

The Couple A set lets you try lots of different kinds of sushi at once, so it is great when the two of you cannot be bothered deciding what to order. In particular, Yu Iksang Sushi serves fish that extends long over the rice, so each piece is quite substantial and the set looked like it would be plenty filling.

A compact restaurant with bar and table seating

The restaurant is on the compact side! It has both bar and table seating, with the overall feel of a small Japanese-style sushi restaurant. The walls have decorations related to Japanese animation, which added a slight Japanese feel too. It was nice for two people to eat on a date, and the layout also seemed great for solo diners at the bar table!

You absolutely have to read the tasty-food guide,,, Since the sushi is so long, I loved the thoughtful touch of providing a brush separately!!

My honest take on sushi with long slices of fish

When we ordered sushi, the basic side dishes came out too. The spread included soup, salad, and even fried shrimp, so it was seriously generous.

The table was so full that I wondered whether we could finish it all, haha. There was salmon, flounder, tuna, shrimp, octopus, imitation crab, beef, rolls, and more, so it was easy to choose according to your taste!

Because it is long-tailed sushi, the fish stretches out so far that the fish makes up a pretty big part of each bite!

It was hard to eat in one bite, so putting it in my mouth with a spoon was insanely satisfying...

Shrimp and tuna! Also, the sushi does not come with wasabi already inside, so you can add it yourself to taste. Wasabi lovers can control the amount, and even people like me who do not like adding lots of wasabi can enjoy it without any pressure!

They even gave us complimentary eggplant sushi! We enjoyed it :) In particular, if you want sushi near Hongdae Entrance Station without the formality of a reservation-only omakase, or you are looking for something a little more distinctive than ordinary sushi, it is worth visiting at least once!
