Teppanyaki restaurant in Mapo with a wagyu set: Gusa Yeonnam
In short
Gusa Yeonnam is a teppanyaki restaurant about a five-minute walk from Hongik University Station Exit 3 in Mapo, Seoul. I had the Signature Wagyu Set for Two at lunch, which came to ₩67,000 with an option surcharge; the creamy mentaiko udon stood out, while the okonomiyaki was moist rather than crisp.

On a day when I finished work early, I went to Gusa Yeonnam (구사 연남) for teppanyaki at lunch. We chose the Signature Wagyu Set for Two, which let the two of us share wagyu, okonomiyaki, and a noodle dish.

How do you get there from Hongik University Station, and what about parking?
It took about five minutes on foot from Hongik University Station Exit 3. The address is B1, Yeontral Tower, 6 Donggyo-ro 30-gil, Mapo-gu, Seoul. The GOOSA YEONNAM sign and large menu board outside made it easy to find, and I could check the menu before going in. There are outdoor tables in front, which looked like a nice option for eating outside on a cool day.

If you are driving, it is best to ask before visiting whether you can use the space beside the restaurant. It did not look spacious, so parking may not be easy. If you are not confident driving, a nearby paid parking lot may feel less stressful.

What are the seating and interior atmosphere like?
Inside, there were two- and four-person tables as well as bar seats, which looked suitable for a date or a small gathering. From directly in front of the griddle, you can watch the cooking up close. The air conditioning was strong, though, and I felt a little cold while eating. If you get cold easily, bring a light outer layer.

What comes with the wagyu set for two, and how much is it?
We ordered by scanning the QR code at the table. At the time of my visit, the Signature Wagyu Set for Two had a base price of ₩66,000, and it came to ₩67,000 with a ₩1,000 menu-option surcharge. With a wagyu platter, okonomiyaki, and a noodle dish, it was a good way for two people to try several teppanyaki dishes.

While we waited after ordering, we could watch the cooking in the open kitchen. Food was made on the large griddle with a sizzling sound, so the wait did not feel especially long.

The cabbage was tasty too, and we finished it quickly.

How were the mentaiko cream udon and okonomiyaki?
The dish I enjoyed most that day was the mentaiko cream udon. The thick cream sauce had the salty flavor of mentaiko (seasoned pollock roe), and it clung well to the noodles.
The okonomiyaki was generously sauced and moist rather than very crisp on the outside. It is worth noting if you expect a crisp texture, but it may suit you if you like a soft style with plenty of sauce.

How was the wagyu, and what did I think after the meal?
The wagyu had a distinct, rich meaty aroma. I think it would suit people who prefer a savory, deeper beef flavor to lighter-tasting beef. After eating it plain, I added wasabi, which refreshed the flavor and made the next piece easy to eat too.

The shrimp was plump and memorable too. I especially ate almost all of the cream sauce with the mentaiko cream udon.

However, if cream sauce or rich dishes start to feel heavy quickly, you may want to choose a spicy noodle option to balance the meal.
What are the hours and available services?
The hours listed in the original post are daily from 12:00 to 24:00, with last orders at 23:00. On weekdays, there is a break from 15:00 to 17:00. It also says reservations, takeout, group visits, and pets are allowed.
